Job Description

Rocking V Cafe is looking for an ideal candidate for serving on our busy weekends and some weekdays.
SUNDAY IS REQUIRED
Night schedules rotationally begin at 3:00 p.m., 3:30p.m., 4:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m., or 5:00 p.m. to after closing, once all duties have been completed. About Us Rocking V Cafe is a small restaurant and popular dining destination in Kanab, UT. We are fast-paced, and our goal is to provide excellent food and service to our guests, ranging from locals of southern Utah to national and international tourists in an art-filled mercantile building from 1892.

Food perks provided On-the-job training Lively atmosphere Incentives Server Job Description and Expectations A Server at Rocking V Café works primarily in the dining areas, including indoor dining, outdoor seating, bar areas, and upstairs dining areas when applicable. Servers are responsible for providing guests with a welcoming, efficient, attentive, and memorable dining experience throughout all stages of service. Servers are responsible for greeting guests promptly after being seated, guiding guests through the menu, taking accurate food and beverage orders, entering orders into the Point of Sale (POS) system, delivering food and beverages, processing payments, and attending to guest needs throughout the dining experience. Servers play an important role in creating the overall guest experience at Rocking V Café. Servers are expected to maintain professionalism, urgency, positive communication, teamwork, organization, and hospitality during all service periods while helping maintain efficient restaurant operations. Servers are expected to have strong knowledge of the menu, ingredients, food preparation styles, daily specials, alcoholic beverages, and applicable Utah liquor laws. Servers must be able to answer guest questions, provide recommendations, address allergies or dietary concerns, and communicate effectively with kitchen staff, bartenders, bussers, hosts, and management throughout service. Servers are also expected to help maintain a clean, sanitary, organized, and guest-ready environment at all times. This includes assisting with bussing tables, maintaining service stations, completing side-work duties, and helping support overall restaurant operations when needed. While serving guests, professionalism, positive body language, patience, urgency, and strong communication skills are expected at all times. Servers may occasionally assist with guest concerns, special requests, carryout orders, large parties, and operational support duties as needed. Duties and Responsibilities Greet guests promptly after being seated and ensure guests feel welcomed and comfortable throughout their dining experience Present menus, explain specials, answer questions, and provide recommendations regarding food, beverages, desserts, beer, wine, and cocktails Take accurate food and beverage orders and properly enter orders into the Point of Sale (POS) system Collaborate with kitchen staff, bartenders, bussers, hosts, and management to ensure accurate and timely service Deliver food and beverages to guests promptly and accurately Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience and address concerns professionally Maintain awareness of guest needs including refills, additional requests, table maintenance, and payment processing Process cash, credit card, gift card, and Point of Sale transactions accurately Maintain organization of receipts, checkout paperwork, and end-of-shift cash handling procedures Maintain an appropriate cash bank when handling cash transactions Assist with pre-bussing, table maintenance, and cleanliness throughout service Help maintain clean and organized service stations, dining areas, counters, and equipment Complete all opening, running side work, and closing side-work duties daily Assist with rearranging tables and dining areas for larger parties or special events when necessary Follow all applicable Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS) laws and restaurant alcohol compliance procedures Verify guest identification when serving alcoholic beverages as required by law and restaurant policy Observe proper food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and handwashing procedures at all times Communicate operational concerns, guest concerns, or developing issues to leadership promptly Maintain professionalism and composure during stressful or high-volume service periods Assist with additional duties as assigned by Management or Lead Servers Skills and Qualifications Servers are expected to work with urgency while maintaining professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude throughout each shift. A successful Server at Rocking V Café should demonstrate the following skills and qualities: Strong customer service and hospitality skills Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills Positive body language, professionalism, and guest awareness Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure Strong teamwork and communication with all restaurant staff High energy, urgency, and strong work ethic Dependability, punctuality, and willingness to assist where needed Ability to professionally handle guest complaints and concerns Working knowledge of Point of Sale (POS) systems Basic cash handling and transaction management skills Knowledge of food, alcohol service, wine, beer, and cocktails is preferred Prior restaurant or hospitality experience is preferred but not required Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time Ability to safely carry trays, dishes, beverages, bus tubs, and restaurant supplies efficiently throughout service Ability to lift and carry restaurant items, supplies, garbage, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds Ability to bend, twist, reach, and work quickly in confined or crowded spaces Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment Ability to work with urgency while maintaining safety, organization, and professionalism throughout each shift Compensation Expectations Servers at Rocking V Café earn $3.00 per hour plus tips. Tips are provided directly by guests and may vary depending on guest traffic, restaurant sales, quality of service, teamwork, professionalism, urgency, and overall guest experience. Servers are also responsible for tip-out contributions to bussers, bartenders, or other support staff in accordance with restaurant procedures and operational needs. Actual earnings may vary significantly depending on scheduling, guest volume, sales, section size, and individual performance. Education and Training Requirements The Server position at Rocking V Café requires employees to be at least 21 years of age due to the service and handling of alcoholic beverages in accordance with Utah law. Prior restaurant experience, formal education, a high school diploma, or GED are not required. However, previous hospitality or food service experience is preferred. Rocking V Café encourages employees to pursue higher education, trade programs, and personal growth opportunities while employed with the company. Servers should expect to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasionally beyond scheduled hours while guests remain dining or closing duties are being completed. Rocking V Café provides on-the-job training under the guidance of management, lead servers, bartenders, and experienced staff members.

Guest greeting and hospitality procedures Food and beverage service standards Point of Sale (POS) procedures Utah DABS alcohol compliance procedures Food safety and sanitation procedures Restaurant workflow and communication standards Side-work and closing procedures Cash handling and checkout procedures Team communication and operational support expectations Food Handler Permit Requirement All restaurant positions, including servers, are required to maintain a valid Food Handler Permit in accordance with Utah health regulations. All employees are expected to obtain their Food Handler Permit within 30 days of hire. Alcohol Compliance Requirement Servers involved in the sale or service of alcoholic beverages may also be required to complete alcohol compliance or alcohol server training as required by Utah law or restaurant policy.
