Server/Dishwasher

PURPOSE This is a daytime server/dishwasher position. The Server reports to Kitchen Service Director and serves meals to the residents of the community in a timely, pleasant and professional manner, while maintaining a clean and orderly dining room.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct pre-meal set up and including but not limited to filling water pitchers, filling butter containers, placing linens and setting out dinnerware and utensils. Explain menu selections to residents and/or guests so that they are fully aware of all the menu items that are available; understand and articulate knowledge of the ingredients used in preparing all dishes on the menu. Understand and explain all alternative menu choices available. Take all food orders clearly and precisely. Assure quality table service by utilizing proper service techniques, and exhibiting a cheerful, courteous and positive attitude while adapting to the various needs of each resident. Time the delivery of food from the kitchen and expedite food delivery to residents. Conduct post meal clean-up including, but not limited to, removing all dinnerware to kitchen, sweeping dining room, and cleaning chairs. Maintain the highest standard of personal hygiene and adhere to department uniform policy including the continuous wearing of an Orchard View authorized name-tag. Responsible for promoting an environment that results in resident satisfaction by exhibiting a positive attitude and timely response to resident needs and requests. Follow the department and Orchard View Assisted Living, policies and procedures and federal, state and local laws and regulations, where applicable All other duties as required and consistent with the education and skills required for this position.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE-CERTIFICATION EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent certificate preferred.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Previous experience as a server or in a food service environment desirable. Previous experience working with the elderly and/or disabled in a paid or volunteer position highly desirable.

CERTIFICATION

Valid Utah Food Handlers Permit.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to read, write and speak English. Working knowledge of the use of a vacuum cleaner, wet/dry vacuum, and other cleaning products and equipment normally used in a dining room setting, highly desirable. Ability to be flexible and work in an environment that promotes teamwork and collaboration. Excellent verbal communication skills, and the ability to relate in a positive and professional way to a diverse resident and employee population. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, employees, staff and the community. Demonstrated ability to set priorities, complete assignments in a timely manner while managing multiple duties and responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physically able to move at least 30 lbs. without assistance. Physically able to bend, reach and work in small areas. Physically able to push and pull equipment and furnishings. Physically able to stand for long periods of time.
