Job Description

Position Overview:
Copia Resources CA, Inc. is seeking a high-level, hands-on Human Resources Generalist to support and manage core HR functions. This role requires strong working knowledge of California employment law and compliance, including ADA, CFRA/FMLA, and workers' compensation. This is an independent HR position that requires sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to work independently while supporting employees and leadership in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. The HR Generalist will serve as the primary HR contact for employee relations, legal matters, and compliance oversight, while also handling day-to-day HR operations like payroll, leaves, and benefits.
Job Duties:
Manage full-cycle recruitment including posting, screening, interviewing, and coordinating offers for exempt and non-exempt roles. Oversee, initiate, and maintain onboarding processes and materials for consistency and engagement. Serve as the first point of contact for employee concerns, conflicts, and policy questions. Guide supervisors through corrective action, progressive discipline, and termination processes. Prepare and document disciplinary actions, coaching plans, and termination paperwork. Support and standardize performance appraisal processes and improvement plans. Manage all leave types, including CFRA, FMLA, PDL, pregnancy accommodations, and personal leaves. Conduct and document ADA interactive process meetings and reasonable accommodations. Coordinate workers' comp claims from initial report through resolution, including communication with adjusters and medical providers. Partner with operations to promote workplace safety and injury prevention practices. Maintain deep working knowledge of California labor law, including wage and hour, meal and rest break laws, and required postings. Respond to audits, wage claims, labor board complaints, and legal inquiries with support from legal counsel as needed. Partner with attorneys and insurance representatives on employment-related risk management. Support proper FLSA classification, job descriptions, and wage compliance. Maintain compliant personnel files, I-9 records, and confidentiality protocols. Verify and process semi-monthly payroll using ADP Workforce Now.
Administer benefits programs:
enrollments, terminations, open enrollment, and employee education. Track PTO, holiday, and sick time accruals; resolve discrepancies. Serve as liaison with benefit brokers, carriers, and employees for benefit issues. Identify training needs and help create or deliver onboarding and compliance-related training for employees and supervisors. Draft, revise, and implement HR policies and employee handbook content with legal support. Support internal and external audits (e.g., EDD, OSHA, benefits, insurance). Maintain HRIS system accuracy (ADP Workforce Now), including department codes, PTO rules, and reporting structures. Assist in preparing compliance reports (ACA, EEO-1, etc.). Required Qualifications 4+ years of high-level HR generalist or HR manager-level experience Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree or HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred Valid driver's license and ability to travel periodically Must commit to working from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm in our San Ramon, CA office and must be available for work on select major holidays. This is not a remote position. Strong working knowledge of California labor law, leave laws, and compliance Proven experience managing ADA accommodations, CFRA/FMLA leaves, and workers' comp Skilled in employee relations, conflict resolution, and documentation Spanish fluency is required The ideal Candidate Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities High level of accountability and attention to detail Organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple responsibilities independently Growth mindset with a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving Experience with Mac systems preferred Proficient with ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Office, and Dropbox Experience in working-class or blue-collar environments strongly preferred and highly prioritized
