Job Description

Salary Information Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n•A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations•\r\n Nature of Work The\r\nfundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled inspection\r\nwork in securing compliance with ordinances and regulations governing existing\r\nand new gas and mechanical installations. The work involves responsibility for\r\nperforming field and office activities in the City's gas and mechanical\r\ninspection program and securing compliance with legally established\r\nspecifications and requirements. The inspector works independently in the field\r\nand is responsible for making decisions requiring technical discretion, sound\r\njudgment and familiarity with a variety of installation and repair problems.
\r\nThe work responsibilities are:
inspects the installation of the mechanical\r\ncomponents of commercial kitchen appliances, heating and air conditioning\r\nequipment, gas and oil piping, gas-fired and oil-fired appliances and\r\nventilating equipment; confers with supervisors, contractors, architects,\r\nengineers, owners and the public regarding questions relative to inspection and\r\nenforcement of applicable codes and ordinances; and performs general office\r\nfunctions. The work is subject to general supervision and may be reviewed in\r\ncases involving permits and enforcement of applicable codes. General direction\r\nis received from the Chief Plumbing Inspector or Assistant Chief Plumbing and\r\nGas Inspector.\r\n Minimum Qualifications High school\r\ndiploma or G.E.D. Five (5) years' experience in residential and commercial\r\ninstallation or inspection of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning\r\nsystems including one (1) year of\r\nexperience in a leadership capacity.\r\n\r\n\r\n

Qualifying education, training and\r\nexperience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to\r\nperform the job will be considered.\r\n\r\n Special Requirements Must\r\nhave or obtain a valid Alabama driver's license as needed to operate a City\r\nvehicle in the performance of mechanical and gas inspections. Certification\r\nwithin one (1) year of employment as a Mechanical Inspector (Commercial)\r\nthrough a recognized certification program in compliance with the International\r\nCode Council.\r\n\r\n\r\nPHYSICAL
