Job Description
The Opportunity Ascentria Care Alliance seeks an exceptional Chief People Officer (CPO) to champion its transformative mission of building a healthier, more equitable society. This is an exciting and consequential opportunity for a visionary HR executive to shape and lead a high-impact people strategy for one of New England's most respected non-profit social services and senior care organizations. The CPO will be a critical member of Ascentria's Executive Team, reporting directly to the President and CEO, and leading a dedicated HR staff of 14. This role will help shape organizational culture, drive strategic workforce initiatives, and ensure Ascentria continues to attract, develop, and retain top talent across its expansive, multi-state operations. With over 2,000 employees across five New England states, Ascentria is poised for growth and innovation, committed to addressing complex social determinants of health and improving lives for vulnerable communities—including children, elders, individuals with disabilities, refugees, endangered teens, and young families. The next CPO will have an opportunity to influence lasting systemic change while fostering an internal culture that reflects Ascentria's values of Courage, Resilience, Compassion, Dedication, and Integrity. The CPO will also serve as a unifying force across the organization, bringing together diverse perspectives, navigating complex stakeholder dynamics, and building alignment around key people and culture initiatives. This leader will demonstrate a thoughtful, inclusive approach to decision-making, ensuring that even in moments of tension or differing viewpoints, outcomes reflect shared understanding and organizational priorities. The Position The Chief People Officer will serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO, Executive Team, and Board, contributing meaningfully to the organization's vision and strategy. This leader will oversee and execute all core HR functions, including talent acquisition, organizational development, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee engagement, HR operations, compliance, HRIS, payroll, and employee relations. The CPO will guide recruitment efforts to attract diverse, qualified, and mission-aligned talent to support Ascentria's expanding programs. They will design and champion innovative workforce strategies that enhance engagement, development, and retention across geographically distributed teams. They will also develop equitable and market-competitive compensation and benefits programs to reward and retain top talent, while advancing a learning culture through impactful training, leadership development, and career progression opportunities. The CPO will promote employee engagement strategies that foster trust, loyalty, and a shared commitment to Ascentria's mission. They will ensure HR compliance across five states, maintaining alignment with evolving federal, state, and local laws. Serving as a key leader in shaping organizational culture, the CPO will embody and cultivate Ascentria's values of Courage, Resilience, Compassion, Dedication, and Integrity. They will work closely with leaders across the organization to foster open dialogue, encourage healthy debate, and guide teams toward aligned, thoughtful decisions, even when perspectives differ. Finally, the CPO will actively contribute as co-chair of the Leadership Development Committee and chair multiple key committees related to compensation, safety, and organizational effectiveness. The Candidate The ideal Chief People Officer will possess a profound commitment to Ascentria's mission and a passion for making a tangible difference in underserved communities. This highly visible leader will be adept at building relationships across all levels of the organization, from frontline staff to the Board of Directors , embodying a servant leadership approach characterized by humility, respect, and a genuine desire to uplift others. Qualifications for this transformative role include: ➧ A Master's degree in human resources or a related area is required ➧SPHR/SHRM-SCP
certification is preferred. ➧ A minimum of 10-15 years of progressively responsible senior HR leadership experience is required , ideally within large non-profit organizations. ➧ A proven track record of successfully leading complex, system-wide organizational and human resources change initiatives. ➧ Demonstrated experience in creating and enhancing organizational culture through effectiveness and development strategies that significantly boost employee engagement and satisfaction. ➧ Ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups, effectively navigating differing viewpoint with diplomacy, active listening, and sound judgement while maintaining forward momentum on key initiatives. ➧ A history of championing change and innovative approaches to human capital management. ➧ Exceptional expertise in all core HR generalist processes, including talent management, talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, performance management, learning management, employee benefits, succession planning, HR compliance, organizational development, and payroll. ➧ In-depth knowledge of federal and state labor laws. ➧ A leadership style characterized by personal integrity, collaboration, and influence, with proven ability to engage stakeholders, foster trust, and build alignment through open, And transparent communication. and transparent communication, achievement, and accountability. ➧ The ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and effectively manage complex and sensitive situations. ➧ Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation communication skills, with a diplomatic approach and a commitment to transparency. ➧ A proven ability to motivate, train, facilitate, and lead employees across the entire organization. ➧ Strong knowledge of HRIS and Payroll systems, including implementation experience. ➧ A strong sense of responsibility, integrity, courage, and compassion. ➧ Ability to travel up to 25% across the New England region.
