Job Description

What Will You Do Why This Role Matters Join our HR team as the primary contact for employee and manager inquiries about benefits-including health insurance, 401(k), pension, leaves of absence, and more. You'll deliver efficient, high-quality customer service, process benefits transactions, and ensure compliance with plan design and regulations. The Mission As an HR Employee Service Representative, you will serve as a key point of contact for employees seeking HR support. You will provide high-quality customer service while resolving HR inquiries related to benefits, policies, and employee programs. This role requires strong communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to navigate HR systems to resolve cases efficiently. What You'll Do Respond to benefits questions via phone, email, HR portal and in person; advise on eligibility, coverage, and claims Process benefits transactions (enrollment, coverage changes, lifecycle events) and maintain accurate records Administer benefits systems and support communications (plan descriptions, employee materials) Support high-volume benefit activities, including annual enrollment and other major benefit initiatives. Coordinate with benefit vendors and internal partners to resolve enrollment, eligibility, coverage, and claims-related issues. Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information
What You Will Need Minimum Job Requirements:
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Basic knowledge of benefits programs and regulations (HIPAA, ERISA, ACA, FMLA, COBRA, 401(k)) Benefits administration experience (enrollment, eligibility, claims) Professional customer service experience (phone, email, in-person) Proficiency with office software and HR systems Strong attention to detail and record-keeping Ability to handle confidential information with discretion Effective verbal and written communication
Education:
Position prefers a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and a minimum two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in Leaves Administration Experience in Retirement 401k, and pension plans Experience with Tuition Assistance programs Experience with
HRIS/HCM
platforms (Oracle, Workday, SAP) and case management systems (ServiceNow, Salesforce) Experience in large organizations or shared services Professional certifications (CEBS, PHR/SHRM-CP)

Work Environment:
Work Location:
The work location for this position is telework. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position Commitment:
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year. No Clearance:
Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test:
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
