A well-established employee benefits firm in Reston, Virginia is adding an experienced consultant to its small group insurance team. This person will serve as a primary resource for existing clients, helping business owners and HR leaders make sense of their health insurance options. The position combines client relationship management, renewal strategy, problem-solving, and informal leadership of less-experienced team members. This is not a cold-calling sales position. Most of the work involves supporting current clients, managing renewals, and helping with business generated through referrals. What You Will Do Serve as a trusted contact for small business clients. Manage health insurance renewals from preparation through completion. Review pricing, coverage, carrier options, and plan changes. Help clients compare fully insured and level-funded plans. Explain complicated insurance information in a way clients can easily understand. Recommend solutions based on each client's costs, employees, and priorities. Respond to client questions and resolve issues throughout the year. Build relationships with business owners, executives, and HR professionals. Assist with referrals and selected new client opportunities. Provide direction and support to junior team members. Work with carriers, account managers, enrollment employees, and other insurance partners. Keep client records and renewal information accurate and organized. What We Are Looking For 4 + years of small group employee benefits or group health insurance experience An active Life and Health Insurance License Strong knowledge of fully insured and level-funded plans Experience leading client conversations and renewal meetings The ability to evaluate options and make clear recommendations A polished and professional presence over the phone, by video, and in person Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a high volume of accounts A calm, decisive approach when clients need quick answers Experience coaching or assisting less-experienced employees Knowledge of the Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. insurance markets is helpful The Right Fit This opportunity is best suited for someone who is experienced, practical, and comfortable taking ownership.
