Insurance•About the Role Our client, a top-5 national insurance brokerage firm specializing in property & casualty, workers' compensation, employee benefits, and financial services, is seeking an Account Manager Lead to join their growing Employee Benefits team in Spokane, WA. This role is ideal for a benefits professional who thrives in a consultative (rather than transactional) environment, managing a book of smaller group clients (under 100 lives) while leading and mentoring a team of Account Managers. You'll manage a portfolio of 30-50 clients at a time, working closely with Producers and internal teams to deliver an exceptional client experience while developing the next generation of Account Managers on a larger, collaborative team based in Spokane. Job Description As an Account Manager Lead, you'll take ownership of a portfolio of small group employee benefits clients while leading and developing a team of Account Managers on-site in Spokane. This is a consultative, relationship-driven role — you'll guide clients through renewals, strategy, and plan changes, while also mentoring team members and ensuring smooth day-to-day office operations.
Core responsibilities include:
Serve as the primary relationship owner for an assigned book of small group (under 100 lives) employee benefits clients, ensuring high retention and satisfaction. Lead and mentor a team of Account Managers, including training development, task delegation, and resolution of escalated service issues. Manage the full renewal cycle — reviewing renewals, preparing renewal/template letters, and marketing groups or presenting recommendations based on rate changes. Meet with clients for pre-renewal strategy sessions, proposal delivery, and coverage explanations. Negotiate with carriers/markets for premium concessions and select markets for solicitation. Review coverage contracts and client illustrations for accuracy. Oversee new carrier and plan implementations across the assigned book of business. Manage new business processing, follow-up, and reporting accuracy across the team. Act as liaison between the local office and corporate departments (Accounting, IT, Facilities) to support day-to-day office operations, including vendor and invoice management. Ensure fee collection and account reconciliation are completed within 60 days of invoicing. Maintain complete, accurate data within the agency management system in compliance with company standards and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 7+ years of related employee benefits/account management experience. Valid Insurance License (active or ability to obtain immediately). Must maintain Continuing Education requirements for license renewal. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service skills, including phone and active listening. Proven leadership, problem-solving, and time management abilities. Ability to work collaboratively within a team and foster teamwork among others. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Experience training and mentoring team members. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work hybrid schedule:
minimum 2 days/week in the Spokane, WA office, with Wednesday required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of (or active progress toward) Career Path requirements as defined by supervisor/company guidelines. Prior experience specifically in small group (under 100 lives) employee benefits account management. Experience in a consultative client-facing benefits role rather than a purely transactional one. Benefits Our client's benefits package includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with life, accidental, and long-term care insurance. They prioritize financial security and offer resources to support mental health, employee assistance programs (EAP), and fitness initiatives. Additionally, they promote work-life balance and provide opportunities for professional development to help you grow both personally and professionally.
