Inclusion Specialist Congregation Beth El - 4.5 Berkeley, CA Job Details Part-time $12,000 - $15,000 a year 1 hour ago Benefits Employee discount Qualifications Teamwork Experience working with individuals with disabilities Program development Working with students Teaching Parent-teacher conferences (communication methods) Full Job Description Congregation Beth El, Berkeley's progressive Reform Congregation, is seeking an Inclusion Specialist for our K-12th grade supplementary program for this coming school year of August 2026-May 2027. This role is part time, averaging 7.5 hours per week, with some heavier and lighter times. This person will be taking over and enhancing a program that has been in place for three years. The role of the Inclusion Specialist is to work with students, teachers, Madrichim (teen assistants), the Director of Learning and Engagement for K-5th grades and the Director of Learning and Engagement for 6-12th grades, parents/caregivers and others as needed to support the access needs of students with disabilities in the Kadima (K-5th grade), Makom (6th-8th grade) and YALA (9th-12th grade) supplementary Education Program at Congregation Beth El (CBE). This position reports to the Directors of Learning and Engagement, K-5th grades and 6-12th grades.
Responsibilities may include:
August/September:
Scheduling introductory meetings (zoom or in person) with parents/guardians of students who have identified accessibility challenges on their enrollment, or whom we have identified as potentially needing more support, to talk about goals, plans and support for the year (with the relevant director present when indicated). Compile 'Access Plans'- documents identifying strategies for including identified students that are shared with the teachers Develop year-long goals, identify potential access barriers, compile parent-suggested and CBE-suggested interventions to support access Develop and implement staff training workshops for teacher in-service in concert with the directors on supporting students with disabilities.
Throughout the year:
Develop and facilitate training sessions for all teen assistants (Madrichim) throughout the year in collaboration with Directors and in response to observed student needs Provide staff training programs to support needs as they arise in the classroom Oversee and develop Madrichim Shadow program (program to support teens who are working with one particular student rather than a whole class): provide informal weekly coaching, observations, 1-1 check-ins, cohort trainings, and model effective strategies Communicate with families and teachers throughout the year around challenges and successes that arise for students with access needs with Bet Mitzvah tutor and Congregation Beth El's clergy as disabled students enter their tutoring process to support that transition, with access plans and a phone call or meeting to share support suggestions Observe and support students with disabilities in class: Provide feedback for teachers and Madrichim based on observations Document, update access plans, and update teachers and Directors after observations Meet Regularly with Directors to discuss challenges and successes as well as observations of teachers and students Regularly with Teachers to implement access plans, provide strategies for support in the classroom as needed per student Discuss school events and plan for points of access as needed Consult Director on access support purchases
November/December:
Scheduling mid-year meetings (zoom or in person) with parents/guardians of students who have identified accessibility challenges on their enrollment, or whom we have identified as potentially needing more support, to revisit and update goals, plans and support for the year (with the relevant director present when indicated). Revise access plans and update teachers and directors, including a verbal check-in as needed to clarify. Develop year-long goals, identify potential access barriers, compile parent-suggested and Beth El-suggested interventions to support access April/May Scheduling end-of-year year meetings (zoom or in person) with parents/guardians of students who have identified accessibility challenges on their enrollment, or whom we have identified as potentially needing more support, to revisit and update goals, plans and support for next year (with the relevant director present when indicated). Revise access plans and update Directors on the year's wrap up with the student and goals for students for the next academic year Develop new goals, identify potential access barriers, compile parent-suggested and CBE-suggested interventions to support access for the next academic year Maintain notes Formal tracking of hours each week to record work accomplished On student observations, teacher and parent/guardian conversations/recommendations Update access plans at end of year with goals, plans and support for the following year Share with Directors and, as appropriate, the teachers of the students. Maintain confidentiality Around student, family and teacher information Other needs as they arise
Availability/Schedule:
Thursdays, 4-6, August-May Alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 4-6, August-May Monthly staff meetings as scheduled on Wednesday nights, 6-7pm Monthly staff meetings as scheduled on Thursday nights, 6:15-7:15 pm Attend and help lead teacher inservice on August 25, 27, September 1 and 2 Occasional meetings with Madrichim (teen assistants) to strengthen their skills, with the possibility to lead 1-2 inclusion based trainings a year for teens in the Madrichim program on a Thursday evenings 6-8pm Regularly scheduled (~3/year) meetings with Shadow Program teen participants to check in and strengthen their skills Biweekly time with each Director to meet outside of Kadima/Makom hours via
Zoom Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have: Educational background in special education or disability studies 1+ year experience working with disabled youth in a dedicated role Deep care for disabled students, their families and teachers Experience facilitating professional development or equivalent Thoughtful and sympathetic communication skills for discussing difficult subjects with families and teachers Interest in and care for teaching racially, gender, and neurologically diverse students Knowledge of second language acquisition for disabled students is preferred Knowledge of supplementary Jewish education and Judaism is helpful but not required.
Pay:
$12,000.00 - $15,000.00 per year
