Job Description

Company Overview Peoria Charter Coach Company has provided professional motorcoach, charter, campus, and airport transportation since 1941. We operate out of facilities in Peoria and Urbana and serve universities and their students, athletic programs, corporations, public schools, and private groups across the Midwest. Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Human Resources Officer to join our team. In this vital role, you will build a professional HR function that supports operations, ensures compliance with Illinois and federal employment law, and treats employees fairly while protecting the Company. Responsibilities Partner with ownership and operations on staffing, scheduling support, performance management, and workforce planning. Administer recruiting, onboarding, I-9s, personnel files, and offboarding in compliance with Illinois and federal law. Advise managers on employee relations. Intake and document complaints. Coordinate prompt, fair investigations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations, and report findings to the CEO and Company counsel as required. Maintain and update the employee handbook, job descriptions, and workplace policies. Provide required Illinois training, including sexual harassment prevention. Administer benefits, leave (including FMLA and Illinois paid leave), workers' compensation coordination, and unemployment responses. Support payroll and the Comptroller on wage-and-hour compliance, final pay, and vacation/PTO administration. Coordinate with Safety on driver qualification files, drug and alcohol program administration support, and other personnel aspects of DOT compliance. Safety remains responsible for operational safety programs. Keep confidential personnel, medical, and investigation records secure. Escalate legal risk to the CEO and outside employment counsel. Do not withhold operationally necessary information from the CEO or owners. Prepare workforce data and documentation for leadership decisions, including lawful reductions in force if directed, using objective, non-retaliatory criteria. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or
SHRM-SCP
preferred. At least five years of progressive HR experience, including employee relations and investigations. Experience in transportation, logistics, or multi-site operations is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of Illinois employment law (IHRA, wage payment, personnel records, paid leave, WARN/mini-WARN) and federal employment law (Title
VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA
). Familiarity with
DOT/FMCSA
personnel requirements is a plus. Clear writing, discretion, judgment, and the ability to work with drivers, shop staff, and executives.
