Our work includes pre-engineered metal buildings, concrete construction, design-build, general contracting, and agricultural construction. Koehn Building Systems, Inc . and Bowman Enterprises, Inc. are collaborating to fill a Human Resources Officer to join the KBS team and play an important role in supporting the people who make our company successful. This position will work closely with both our field crews and administrative staff , providing hands-on HR support while helping KBS maintain a strong, values-driven workplace. Position Overview The Human Resources Officer will oversee and coordinate day-to-day HR activities, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, compliance, and employee development. This is an opportunity for an HR professional who understands that construction is a people-driven business and who is comfortable working with employees in both the field and office environments. The successful candidate will be someone employees can approach, someone who can communicate effectively with leadership, and someone who can help maintain the standards, culture, and values that are important to KBS. Key Responsibilities Recruiting & Talent Acquisition Manage full-cycle recruitment for skilled tradespeople, field laborers, project managers, and administrative positions. Develop proactive recruiting and sourcing strategies to attract qualified candidates in a competitive construction market. Conduct applicant interviews, reference checks, background screenings, and required pre-employment processes. Develop and maintain job descriptions and employee evaluation processes. Work with company leadership to identify current and future staffing needs. Onboarding & Employee Development Lead employee onboarding and orientation. Help ensure new employees understand company policies, safety expectations, job responsibilities, and workplace standards. Support employee development, training, and professional growth. Maintain accurate and organized employee records. Employee Relations Serve as a trusted resource, sounding board, mediator, and advocate for employees and leadership. Help address employee concerns and workplace issues professionally and confidentially. Support performance management and disciplinary processes when needed. Help promote clear communication between field employees, supervisors, office personnel, and leadership. Benefits, Compliance & HR Administration Assist with benefits administration and employee questions regarding company benefits. Maintain compliance with applicable employment laws, company policies, and required documentation. Maintain accurate HR records and personnel files. Assist leadership with HR policies, procedures, and employee-related documentation. Support workplace safety and compliance initiatives. Culture & Team Engagement Help foster a workplace environment reflecting KBS's Faith Foundation values of integrity, humility, service, and accountability . Support company events, service projects, employee recognition, and team-building activities. Help strengthen communication and relationships between employees throughout the organization. Represent KBS professionally and help reinforce a positive, respectful workplace culture. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will have: Experience in Human Resources, preferably in a construction, manufacturing, industrial, or other hands-on work environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to build trust with employees at all levels of an organization. Good judgment and discretion when handling confidential employee matters. Strong organizational and administrative skills. The ability to work independently while also working closely with company leadership. A practical understanding of employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, and HR compliance. The ability to communicate effectively with both field employees and office professionals.
