Basketball Full Job Description Job Summary :
The Assistant Coach - Recruiting & Player Development supports the Men's Basketball program through recruiting, coaching, player development, scouting, and administrative operations in accordance with University, conference, and NCAA regulations. This position plays a key role in identifying and recruiting prospective student-athletes, developing current student-athletes through individual skill instruction, assisting with game preparation and analysis, and supporting all aspects of program operations. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining compliance with NCAA, conference, state, and university policies. Essential Functions (Responsibilities): Recruiting & Talent Evaluation Direct recruiting organization and assist with the overall recruiting strategy of the program. Evaluate prospective student-athletes including high school, prep school, junior college, and transfer portal prospects. Maintain and organize recruiting databases, prospect records, alumni information, and key program contacts. Coordinate official and unofficial campus visits, including football weekend recruiting events. Develop recruiting materials, presentations, and personalized visit content. Coordinate recruiting services and recruiting-related technology platforms. Maintain communication and outreach programs with high school, junior college, and AAU coaches. Track and report prospective student-athlete performance and results. File prospect transcripts and coordinate academic evaluations with appropriate university personnel. Coaching & Player Development Provide individual and small-group skill instruction and player development. Coordinate shooting and skill development programs with graduate assistants. Develop skill development manuals, drill sheets, and program skill-development records. Assist with on-court coaching during practices, workouts, and competitive activities. Mentor student-athletes and support their personal, academic, and athletic development. Scouting, Analytics & Game Preparation Assist with opponent scouting, practice film review, and game film analysis. Prepare video edits, scouting materials, and analytical reports for coaches and student-athletes. Contribute to offensive game planning and strategy development. Create and maintain offensive video playbooks, diagrams, and teaching materials. Support pre-game preparation and post-game performance evaluation. Basketball Operations & Administration Serve as the program's recruiting and compliance coordinator by tracking recruiting activities and maintaining required documentation related to recruiting days and CARA reporting. Coordinate road practice schedules and facility arrangements for team travel. Assist with communication and coordination involving hotels, restaurants, catering, and other recruiting-related logistics. Prepare and submit expense reports and other departmental documentation. Organize walk-on tryouts as needed. Conduct class checks and assist with student-athlete accountability measures. Support the planning and execution of Elite Camps, Team Camps, and Day Camps. Culture, Leadership & Program Support Foster a positive culture that promotes student-athlete development and team success. Maintain professional relationships with student-athletes, staff, alumni, supporters, and community stakeholders. Assist in special projects and initiatives that enhance the overall success of the men's basketball program. Follow and ensure compliance with all NCAA, American Athletic Conference, State of Oklahoma, University of Tulsa, and Athletics Department rules, regulations, and policies.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skill/Ability Equivalent Education/Experience NCAA Regulations :
Understanding of NCAA rules and compliance requirements.
Basketball Operations :
Familiarity with the logistics and management of a basketball program.
Organizational Skills :
Ability to manage multiple tasks and schedules efficiently.
Communication Skills :
Strong verbal and written communication abilities to interact with coaches, players, and other stakeholders.
Problem-Solving Skills :
Ability to address and resolve issues that arise in a dynamic environment. Attention to
Detail :
Ensuring all aspects of operations are handled meticulously.
Leadership :
Leading and coordinating efforts among staff and players.
Adaptability :
Adjusting to changing circumstances and needs of the program.
Professional Administrative Support :
Experience in administrative roles, especially within a sports program.
Collegiate Playing Experience :
Experience as a collegiate athlete can be valuable.
Coaching or Operations Experience :
Previous experience in coaching or sports operations, particularly in basketball.
Bachelor's Degree or Relevant Experience :
Often in sports management, business administration, or a related field.
