HUMAN RESOURCES ADMINISTRATOR
, Materials Science and Engineering , provides effective management of HR activities for a department of 500 including 30+ faculty, teaching staff, administrative and support staff, and postdocs in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering(DMSE) within the MIT School of Engineering. Counsels and advises Faculty and Staff on human resources including personnel policy interpretation and administration, performance management, compensation, and employee relations; coaches and assists faculty and staff on issues relating to employee relations and conflict resolution; directs on-boarding and off-boarding; manages rewards and recognition programs; manages annual salary review processes and departmental searches; oversees management of visa sponsorship processing in the department; develops and implements ongoing reporting and tracking processes for DMSE management including standard operating procedures and staff resource guides including web-based resources; and generates and collaborates on creative solutions to complex problems, which may include working effectively with various individuals or groups in a variety of situations. REQUIRED
: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of human resources experience; strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as current HR principles and practices; demonstrate a growth mindset, strong follow-through, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service; be a hands-on manager with proven supervisory experience and exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; take initiative, bring positive energy to the workplace, exercise sound judgment, and maintain a high level of attention to detail; strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team are essential; the ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism; and be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
PREFERRED
: Experience with MIT SAPgui, Quickbase, Cognos, and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS); or professional certifications such as SPHR or PHR. 8/18/2026
