Human Resources & Payroll Coordinator Gold Metal Construction Cleveland, OH Job Details Part-time From $28 an hour 14 hours ago Benefits Work from home 401(k) matching Flexible schedule Qualifications Filing Attention to detail Organizational skills Performing background checks Document management systems Full Job Description Human Resources & Payroll Coordinator Part-Time, Work From Home | Construction Industry We are a small, growing construction company seeking an organized, dependable, and detail-oriented Human Resources & Payroll Coordinator to manage day-to-day HR, payroll, onboarding, compliance, and administrative responsibilities. This is a part-time, work-from-home (WFH) position requiring approximately 10-20 hours per week . Additional hours may be needed during the initial onboarding and training period. Depending on company needs, the position may eventually transition to a hybrid office/WFH role, depending on company growth and if an office location becomes necessary. Hourly rate will vary based on experience, with rates starting at $28 per hour. The coordinator will serve as a primary point of contact for employees and work closely with company owners, foremen, and management. Because employees may work at different job locations, this role requires someone who can manage payroll details, travel arrangements, employment documentation, and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong HR background, knowledge of employment laws and best practices, and experience creating organized HR processes. This person may also assist with creating and implementing an employee handbook. Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll & Timekeeping Administer bi-weekly payroll through GMS , the company's third-party payroll service. Review and submit hours, overtime, per diem, travel pay, reimbursements, deductions, and other payroll information. Resolve payroll discrepancies and communicate with employees, foremen, and GMS as needed. Maintain PTO, vacation, sick time, employee information, and payroll records. Assist with payroll reports, year-end records, W-2 preparation and review, and employee payroll questions. Hiring & Onboarding Create job postings, review applications, coordinate interviews, and communicate with applicants. Prepare new-hire paperwork, including I-9s, W-4s, tax forms, direct deposit information, and company acknowledgments. Add new employees to GMS and other applicable systems. Coordinate background checks, drug screenings, driving record checks, and other pre-employment requirements when applicable. Provide onboarding information, policies, and forms to new employees. Assist with employee offboarding and final payroll and documentation requirements. Employee Records & HR Administration Create and maintain confidential employee personnel files. Keep employee records, licenses, certifications, contact information, pay changes, and employment documents current. Assist ownership with employee documentation, written warnings, performance concerns, and other HR matters. Respond to routine employee questions regarding payroll, PTO, benefits, policies, and company procedures. Assist with employment verifications, unemployment requests, workers' compensation documentation, and other HR correspondence. Protect confidential employee, payroll, medical, benefits, and company information. HR Compliance & Employee Handbook Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment laws. Help ensure HR, payroll, recordkeeping, leave, wage and hour, safety, and employee management practices are properly documented. Assist with creating, updating, and implementing an employee handbook and workplace policies. Coordinate handbook distribution, employee acknowledgments, updates, and recordkeeping. Help document employee concerns, investigations, corrective actions, and other HR matters. Recognize when an issue should be referred to ownership, GMS, legal counsel, or another outside professional. Construction Payroll & Local Compliance Set up new job locations in GMS before employees begin working there. Complete required RITA/local municipality registrations and construction contractor registrations when applicable. Maintain records of registrations, account numbers, expiration dates, and renewal requirements. Coordinate with GMS, municipalities, and other agencies regarding local withholding and registration questions. Keep job-location information current as employees move between projects. Employee Travel Coordinate employee travel and hotel accommodations for out-of-town projects. Establish company or business hotel accounts when appropriate. Maintain travel records, hotel authorization forms, billing information, travel pay, per diem, and reimbursements. Communicate travel details to employees and supervisors and help resolve billing issues. Company Vehicles & Administrative Compliance Coordinate annual license plate and registration renewals for company vehicles and trailers. Maintain current registration, insurance, driver, and other vehicle records. Track expiration dates and ensure renewals are completed on time. Track other recurring company licenses, registrations, and administrative renewals. Additional Responsibilities Prepare reports or employee information requested by ownership. Coordinate employee benefit enrollment or changes when applicable. Track HR, payroll, compliance, licensing, vehicle, and registration deadlines. Assist with annual payroll and HR compliance tasks. Help improve HR, payroll, onboarding, and administrative processes. Perform other HR and administrative duties as needed. Qualifications Strong background in human resources , including employee relations, HR administration, documentation, and compliance. Previous payroll administration experience; experience with a third-party payroll provider is strongly preferred. Experience using GMS or a similar payroll and HR platform is a plus. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws. Experience creating or updating employee handbooks and workplace policies. Construction industry experience or experience managing employees across multiple job locations is highly desirable. Familiarity with Ohio municipal payroll taxes, RITA, and contractor registrations is a plus. Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and recordkeeping skills. Ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Strong computer skills and ability to learn payroll, HR, and document-management systems. Ability to work independently from home, maintain reliable communication, and manage multiple deadlines. Ability to work approximately 10-20 hours per week, with additional hours during onboarding if needed. Willingness and ability to transition to a hybrid part-time arrangement in the future if needed. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has a strong HR foundation and is comfortable managing day-to-day HR, payroll coordination, compliance, and administrative responsibilities. This person should be able to accurately prepare, review, and submit payroll information through GMS , the company's third-party payroll service. We are looking for someone who keeps employee records organized, follows through on deadlines, communicates clearly, and can help establish consistent HR processes as the company grows. The ideal candidate will also assist with creating and maintaining an employee handbook and related workplace policies. Because we are a small construction company, this position is best suited for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and becoming a reliable resource for employees, foremen, management, and ownership.
