Job Description

Position Summary:
Jerry's Auto Group is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Human Resources & Payroll Administrator. This role is responsible for the full spectrum of human resources functions across all four of our dealership locations, ensuring compliance, consistency, and a positive employee experience from hire to retire. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with Paylocity and CDK and thrives in a fast-paced automotive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources Administration:
Serve as the primary HR contact for all employees across Lennox, Beresford, Vermillion, and Sheldon locations Maintain and update employee records, personnel files, and HR databases in accordance with legal requirements Develop, implement, and communicate HR policies and procedures in alignment with dealership goals Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, including South Dakota and Iowa-specific regulations Manage unemployment claims, workers' compensation cases, and OSHA record keeping Coordinate job postings, screening, interviews, and offer letters in partnership with department managers On-boarding & Off-boarding Design and facilitate a structured on-boarding experience for all new hires across all locations Conduct new employee orientation covering company culture, policies, systems, and compliance requirements Collect and verify new hire documentation, including I-9 verification, W-4s, direct deposit, and benefit enrollment Set up new employees in Paylocity and CDK, ensuring system access and role accuracy Process terminations professionally and thoroughly, including separation paperwork, final pay, and system deactivation Conduct exit interviews and communicate insights to leadership to support employee retention
Benefits Administration:
Administer group health, dental, vision, life, and ancillary insurance plans for all eligible employees Manage open enrollment periods, communicate options clearly, and assist employees with plan selection Serve as the primary liaison with benefit brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators Process and track leaves of absence, including FMLA, personal, and medical leave in compliance with applicable law Administer 401(k) or other retirement plan enrollment, changes, and reporting Respond to employee benefit questions and resolve issues in a timely manner Monitor and maintain ACA compliance reporting
Payroll Processing:
Prepare, process, and audit bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll for all dealership locations using Paylocity Ensure accurate calculation of wages, commissions, bonuses, overtime, and deductions in accordance with pay policies Reconcile payroll data against timekeeping records from Paylocity and correct discrepancies prior to processing Manage payroll tax filings and compliance across South Dakota and Iowa jurisdictions Process garnishments, child support orders, and other mandatory deductions Prepare year-end payroll reports, W-2s, and ACA forms; coordinate with accounting for reconciliation Identify and implement payroll process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency
Qualifications Required:
2+ years of HR and payroll experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality Preferred Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment and payroll laws (SD and IA preferred) PHR, SHRM-CP, or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification Experience managing HR functions for hourly, commission-based, and salaried employees simultaneously
Work Environment & Travel:
This position is primarily based at our Lennox location, with periodic travel to our other locations as needed. Valid driver's license is required.
