Job Description

We are seeking an experienced hands-on HR & Payroll Administrator to oversee human resources, payroll, employee benefits, and retirement plan administration for our growing organization. We are a manufacturing company with locations in Spokane, WA. This position will serve as the primary HR resource for employees and management and will be responsible for ensuring our payroll, benefits, employee relations, and HR processes are accurate, compliant, consistent, and well managed. We are looking for someone who is approachable and employee focused while also being confident enough to handle difficult conversations, enforce company policies, and provide sound guidance to management. Key Responsibilities Human Resources & Employee Relations Serve as the primary HR contact for employees, supervisors, and management Handle employee relations concerns, workplace complaints, investigations, and conflict resolution Manage recruiting, hiring, onboarding, orientation, and offboarding Maintain confidential employee records and personnel files Develop, update, and administer company policies and procedures Ensure consistent application of company policies across locations Maintain compliance with federal and applicable state employment laws Payroll Process payroll accurately and timely. Review employee timecards, hours, overtime, PTO, deductions, and payroll changes Maintain employee payroll records, tax information, direct deposits, deductions, and garnishments Process new hires, terminations, wage changes, bonuses, and other payroll adjustments Assist with quarterly and year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation and reconciliation Research and resolve employee payroll questions and discrepancies Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state wage-and-hour requirements Benefits & 401(k) Administration Administer company medical, dental, vision, and other employee benefit programs Manage employee enrollments, changes, qualifying life events, and terminations Coordinate annual benefits open enrollment Serve as the primary contact between employees and benefit providers Review benefit invoices and employee deductions for accuracy Administer the company's 401(k) retirement plan Coordinate employee enrollments, contribution changes, eligibility, and distributions with the plan administrator Ensure payroll deductions and employer contributions are processed accurately and timely Assist with annual 401(k) compliance requirements, testing, audits, and required reporting Maintain accurate benefit and retirement plan records Compliance & Administration Coordinate FMLA and applicable state leave programs Manage workers' compensation claims and workplace injury documentation Maintain required employment notices, records, and HR documentation Assist with unemployment claims and employment verification requests Stay current on employment, payroll, benefits, and HR regulatory requirements Qualifications Several years of progressive HR experience Hands-on payroll processing experience required Experience administering employee health benefits and retirement plans Strong knowledge of federal and state employment and wage-and-hour laws Experience handling employee relations, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain highly confidential information Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and meet payroll and compliance deadlines Experience working in manufacturing, construction, distribution, or a similar environment preferred The Person We're Looking For This position requires someone who can comfortably move between people and numbers. One day may involve helping an employee with a benefits question, reviewing payroll, or completing a 401(k) contribution reconciliation. The next may involve coaching a supervisor, conducting an employee investigation, or assisting management with a difficult personnel decision. The right person will be fair, consistent, organized, approachable, and confident. They should understand that strong HR means supporting employees while also protecting the company, maintaining accountability, and ensuring policies are applied consistently.
Job owns:
payroll, benefits administration, HR records/processes, and routine employee relations.
Job advises/supports management on:
disciplinary decisions, terminations, culture/accountability, and safety. Job coordinates with outside providers on: 401(k), benefits, workers' comp, etc.
