As the company continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Human Resources Manager who can help us develop, support, and manage a high-performing workforce in a fast-paced transportation environment. The Opportunity Bauer's is seeking an experienced, hands-on Human Resources Manager who can operate at both the strategic and day-to-day operational levels. This position will help lead HR practices, programs, and employee initiatives that support an employee-oriented, accountable, compliant, and high-performance culture. The Human Resources Manager will work closely with executive leadership, department managers, employees, and the HR team to ensure the organization attracts, develops, retains, and supports a strong workforce. This is not solely an administrative HR position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable handling employee relations, compliance, recruiting, HRIS systems, benefits, performance management, investigations, corrective actions, policies, and organizational development while also advising leadership on broader people strategies. Transportation industry experience and strong knowledge of California employment law, DOT requirements, union environments, and ADP are highly valued. This position supports Bauer's operations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Francisco, San Francisco International Airport, and Santa Clara . Key Responsibilities HR Leadership & Strategy Partner with executive leadership and department managers on HR strategy, organizational planning, workforce development, employee relations, and people-related decisions. Help develop and maintain an employee-oriented, high-performance culture emphasizing accountability, safety, quality, productivity, continuous improvement, and professional development. Advise managers on employee relations, performance management, organizational structure, compensation, staffing, and workforce planning. Provide coaching and development guidance to managers and employees. Lead and support organizational development and change-management initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve and automate HR processes and systems. Use workforce data and HR metrics to identify trends and support management decisions. Employee Relations & Performance Management Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers regarding workplace concerns and HR matters. Manage and assist with employee relations matters, investigations, corrective actions, performance issues, and conflict resolution. Partners with executive leadership and legal counsel when necessary to appropriately address complex employee relations matters. Ensure employee matters are handled consistently, professionally, confidentially, and in accordance with applicable policies and laws. Assist managers with performance reviews, coaching, documentation, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans. Maintain a high degree of discretion when handling confidential employee and company information. Recruiting, Onboarding & Offboarding Support and oversee recruiting activities across multiple departments. Coordinate recruiting schedules, candidate communications, background checks, reference checks, and pre-employment requirements. Oversee and continuously improve employee onboarding and orientation. Coordinate employee offboarding and ensure proper documentation and processes are completed. Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs and improve hiring and retention strategies. HRIS, Payroll & HR Administration Manage and maintain HRIS systems and employee records. Serve as a knowledgeable resource and advanced user of ADP . Ensure employee information, status changes, compensation changes, benefits, and other HR records are accurate and properly maintained. Support HRIS implementation, upgrades, process improvements, and automation. Maintain organized and accurate personnel documentation and HR files. Develop processes that improve HR efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness. Compliance, DOT & Safety Maintain strong working knowledge of California employment laws and regulations . Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements. Provide HR guidance related to regulatory agencies and requirements, including EEOC and OSHA . Maintain knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and inspection/compliance standards applicable to a commercial passenger transportation operation. Work collaboratively with Safety, Operations, and other departments to maintain workforce and regulatory compliance. Support employee safety, welfare, wellness, and health initiatives. Assist with workers' compensation and workplace injury processes as appropriate. Help ensure required employment, safety, training, and regulatory documentation is properly maintained. Union & Labor Relations Support employee and labor relations in a union environment. Assist management with the interpretation and administration of applicable collective bargaining agreements. Provide guidance regarding employee relations, disciplinary actions, grievances, and other labor-related matters. Work collaboratively with management and legal counsel on complex labor and employee relations issues. Compensation, Benefits & Employee Programs Support compensation and benefits administration. Assist employees with HR-related benefit questions and coordinate with appropriate benefit providers. Help evaluate compensation, retention, employee development, and recognition programs. Support employee communications and company-wide HR initiatives. Assist with employee training, development, and engagement programs. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience. Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related discipline required. Experience supporting a multi-location and/or operational workforce strongly preferred. Experience in transportation, trucking, automotive, construction, logistics, transit, or another highly regulated operational industry strongly preferred . Strong knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance requirements. Experience working in a union environment is strongly preferred . Working knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of employee relations, investigations, corrective actions, performance management, onboarding/offboarding, organizational development, compensation, and benefits. Experience managing and utilizing multiple HRIS platforms. Strong ADP experience is highly preferred. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or
SHRM-SCP
certification preferred. Experience helping a growing organization scale its people, systems, policies, and processes is highly desirable. Able to lead changes and positively influence organizational culture. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related business applications. Comfortable learning and implementing new HR technology and automation tools. Work Requirements Full-time, in-person position. Monday through Friday schedule, with flexibility as business needs require. Must be able to reliably commute to Bauer's San Francisco location. Must be comfortable supporting multiple Bay Area locations, including San Francisco, San Francisco International Airport, and Santa Clara. $95,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
