Mid-level, with a clear path to senior leadership as head of the department About the Opportunity RedIron Construction is a growing structural steel and pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) erector serving commercial construction projects across Louisiana and the Gulf South. Our work is only as strong as the people we put in the field, and demand for skilled Ironworkers, Welders, and Erectors continues to outpace supply across our industry. As we grow, we are building a dedicated Human Resources function and are seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead it. In this role, you will hire eligible staff and place them where they will succeed, for the benefit of both the individual and the organization. You will ensure new and existing team members are onboarded and apprenticed so they are prepared to do their jobs well. You will also own subcontractor qualification and compliance, support our employee development program, and serve as a translator between English- and Spanish-speaking team members as needed. This is a mid-level leadership position with room to grow. The person we hire will help build the systems, processes, and team that define HR at RedIron, with the opportunity to advance into a senior-level role as head of the department as the company and the function expand. What You Will DoLead Recruiting and Hiring Develop and run job advertising strategies for skilled trades positions such as Ironworkers, Welders, and Erectors, as well as office roles, across job boards, social channels, referrals, and community networks, in both English and Spanish. Own the full hiring pipeline, from high-volume outreach and phone screens through offer, with accountability for daily activity, time-to-fill, and quality of hire. Conduct first-round interviews using the company's established interview questions and qualification criteria. Schedule and coordinate second interviews with Project Managers and leadership for qualified candidates. Build and maintain an organized pipeline of qualified candidates across each trade so open positions can be filled quickly, with accurate tracking and current job postings. Oversee Subcontractor Qualification and Compliance Run advertisements to attract qualified subcontractors and crews. Interview and qualify subcontractors to confirm their capabilities, experience, and fit for RedIron projects. Collect and review required compliance documents, including Form W-9, Certificates of Insurance (COI), and IRS EIN confirmation letters, and verify that insurance coverage is current and meets company requirements. Prepare Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and send them to subcontractors for signature, tracking each agreement through to completion. Own Onboarding Explain RedIron Construction processes, policies, and expectations to new employees and subcontractors so they know what to expect from their first day. Manage document intake, including employment applications for internal hires and contract documents for subcontractors. Collect, verify, and maintain certification documents (such as welding, safety, and equipment certifications) for employees and subcontractors. Coordinate start dates and follow up with new hires during their first weeks on the job to help them stay and to address issues early. Support the Employee Development Program Schedule and coordinate employee performance reviews following the company's established process, and keep review records organized and up to date. Administer and communicate the company benefits package, and help shape it as the company grows. Develop apprenticeship and training pathways that help employees grow their skills and careers within RedIron. Leadership, Communication, and Translation Translate between English and Spanish as needed for candidates, employees, subcontractors, and leadership, both verbally and in writing. Meet weekly with Project Managers to understand upcoming crew needs, anticipate hiring demand before it becomes urgent, and report clearly on hiring and HR metrics. Advise company leadership on staffing needs, policies, and employee matters. Help put HR policies, processes, and documentation in place that will hold up as the company grows. What Success Looks Like In your first 30 days, we expect consistent daily outreach, interviews on the calendar every day, a growing list of qualified candidates in all three trades, and your first hires placed. By 60 to 90 days, we expect a steady flow of hires, open field positions filled in about a week, strong new-hire retention through the critical first month, fully documented and compliant subcontractor files, and performance reviews completed on schedule. Over the longer term, we want this person to build out the department, including its systems, standards, and eventually its staff, and to step into the role of department head. As the role grows, responsibilities are expected to expand to include designing the performance review process, setting interview and hiring standards, and leading merit increase decisions. Performance is evaluated on a structured 30/60/90-day plan weighted across activity, pipeline development, hiring output, retention and quality of hires, and communication and ownership. Required Qualifications MUST be fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with professional fluency in both speaking and writing. This is a firm requirement, and applicants who are not fluent in Spanish will not be considered. Much of our workforce and candidate pool is Spanish-speaking, and you must be able to recruit, onboard, manage HR matters, and translate comfortably in both languages. Several years of experience in human resources, recruiting, or staffing, with responsibility for hiring and onboarding. Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to evaluate candidates and subcontractors carefully, spot missing or inconsistent information, and make sound judgment calls. A personable, professional demeanor and the ability to build trust quickly with candidates, field crews, subcontractors, and leadership. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Comfort working toward measurable hiring and retention goals. Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage many candidates, documents, and deadlines at once. A reliable, in-office work ethic in Baton Rouge, LA. Preferred Qualifications Background in construction, skilled trades, or industrial staffing, or familiarity with roles such as Ironworker, Welder, or Erector. Experience with subcontractor compliance, such as reviewing W-9s, Certificates of Insurance, or contract documents. Experience coordinating performance reviews or administering benefits. Experience building HR processes or a department from the ground up. HR certification (such as SHRM-CP or PHR). Established networks within Gulf South trade or labor communities. Compensation and Benefits Starting salary of $70,000 per year. Clear compensation growth as you take on more responsibility and progress into the senior-level department head role. Comprehensive benefits package, including medical coverage and paid time off. Paid holidays and a stable Monday through Friday, 40-hour in-office schedule. A clear path to advance into a senior leadership role as head of the HR department, with direct access to company leadership. How to Apply Submit your resume through this job posting. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required. Please state your Spanish fluency clearly in your application, as it will be verified during the interview process. Qualified candidates will be contacted promptly for a phone screen. RedIron Construction is an equal opportunity employer.
