ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a Human Resources Manager to join their growing team. The position will be based in Newton, NC. This is the first dedicated HR hire, offering a unique opportunity to build and shape the HR function from the ground up. The HR Manager will own day-to-day HR operations while partnering with leadership to implement scalable, best-in-class systems that support growth, strengthen culture, maximize community impact, and ensure compliance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES HR
Function Build-Out & Process Development Establish and formalize HR policies and procedures from the ground up. Develop scalable HR processes aligned with company growth. Evaluate and implement HR technology systems (ATS, onboarding, performance management, etc.). Standardize recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and termination workflows. Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on workforce planning and organizational structure. Talent Acquisition & Onboarding Lead full-cycle recruiting in partnership with department leaders, including the summer intern program. Create and maintain department-specific recruiting and candidate assessment criteria. Design and maintain structured onboarding programs and new-hire orientation. Employee Relations, Culture & Performance Management Serve as a trusted advisor to managers across departments. Support a collaborative environment where employees are respected, values are upheld, and communication is open. Drive a performance-driven culture by helping teams understand how their contributions connect to business success. Design and manage the annual performance review, goal setting, and bonus process. Develop tools and frameworks for goal setting, performance monitoring, and evaluations; train leaders to provide effective feedback. Provide coaching on employee relations, performance management, and development. Serve as the strategic partner in terminations, ensuring legal compliance, risk mitigation, and procedural consistency. Compensation, Benefits & Payroll Support Administer employee benefits programs and manage broker/vendor relationships (health, dental/vision, disability, life, 401(k), etc.). Support payroll and bonus administration in partnership with Accounting. Analyze compensation trends and propose competitive structures to attract and retain top talent. HR Operations & Compliance Ensure compliance with North Carolina and federal employment laws. Maintain accurate employee files and records. Coordinate disability, workers' compensation, and safety documentation. Develop and maintain the employee handbook and related policies. Track NC Real Estate Broker licenses and required continuing education for applicable employees. Training, Development & Internship Program Design and execute onboarding-related training to integrate new hires successfully. Lead professional development by aligning employee growth with organizational goals through training, performance management, and career planning. Identify skill gaps and support development plans, mentorship, and a culture of continuous learning. Partner with leadership to enhance the company's summer internship program, including campus recruiting and orientation. Ideal Skillset Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. 5-8+ years of progressive HR experience; commercial real estate and/or startup/"build-from-scratch" environment preferred. Broad knowledge of HR functions including recruiting, benefits, employee relations, and compliance. Experience implementing HR technology platforms strongly preferred. Demonstrated success building or improving HR processes and systems. Self-starter with strong accountability, leadership, and a team-first mindset. Sound judgment with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with senior leadership. Working knowledge of North Carolina employment laws.
