Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to substantial (five or more years of) increasingly responsible human resources work including at least two years of employee relations work. Substitution of Education forExperience:
Additional graduate degree in human resources administration or other related acceptable field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years. OR Four years of human resources experience with the State of Tennessee. OR Graduation from a school of law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.Necessary Special Qualifications:

The mission of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is charged with serving, securing, and protecting the citizens of Tennessee. As part of its responsibility to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public, TDOSHS performs the following functions: law enforcement, commercial vehicle enforcement, criminal investigations, homeland security, safety education, driver's license issuance/renewal/replacement, handgun permit issuance/renewal replacement, and traffic safety initiatives. Headquartered in Nashville, TDOSHS maintains a strong presence statewide with more than fifty (50) field offices. TDOSHS employs a highly trained and professional staff of over 2,200 employees.Position Description:
The Employee Relations Manager reports to the Director of Employee Relations. This position is responsible for assuming a leadership role, and maintaining expertise in conflict management, resolving workplace issues, and finding solutions that will contribute to a positive work environment. This individual is expected to create and maintain positive working relationships with employees, managers/supervisors, and leadership. It is also an expectation that the incumbent acts as a resource and provide support for staff at all levels of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, by providing non-biased advice and expertise to work through problematic issues in the workplace. This position may be asked to assist with investigative efforts related to protected issues concerning employees.Responsibilities Position Responsibilities:
This position will provide oversight and monitoring of the following programs: Employment Reasonable Accommodation Process Agency Committee Representative for statewide committee meetings EEOC/State/Federal Complaint Process EEO Reporting Disciplinary/Employee Issues Consultant to Management Title VI and Title II Coordinator and Complaint Monitoring Employee Recognition Program Support for the Employee Relations Director Subject-matter expert for Title II, Title VI, Title VII discriminatory complaint processesPreferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree with five (5) years of related increasingly responsible human resources work including at least two years of employee relations work. Strong writing and interpersonal skills are expected and required for this position, as well as advanced computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft applications and the ability to learn other computer databases as required. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following: Ability to communicate and present information to leadership in a professional manner Ability to travel inside the state of Tennessee and be present for in-office attendance Develop and present information a strong, written and professional format Excellent customer service skills for both internal and external customers Competencies (KSA's)Competencies:
