Time Requirement:
Must be at the shop by 6:30 AM, Monday-Friday, weekends, and extended hours as needed, including snow operations. Position Summary The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily field operations of BWS Landscaping's commercial landscape maintenance division. This role focuses on crew performance, routing and scheduling, training, safety, quality control, and real-time problem solving across all assigned properties. This is a hands-on leadership role. The Operations Manager is expected to step into the field when necessary, run a crew when short-handed, and support all operational areas to ensure service commitments, quality standards, and safety expectations are consistently met. Core Responsibilities Field Operations & Crew Management Oversee daily operations for assigned crews and properties Run a crew when short-handed to ensure contractual service commitments are met Manage and control weekly overtime for crews under supervision Build daily schedules and make real-time routing adjustments as conditions change Lead morning huddles and clearly communicate daily priorities to Crew Leaders Perform regular property walks to ensure quality, safety, and contract compliance Address urgent operational issues ("put out fires") as they arise Deliver equipment, tools, or materials to job sites as needed Transport or pick up sick or unavailable employees when necessary Routing, Scheduling & Aspire Management Plan and manage efficient daily and weekly crew routes Ensure accurate daily time entry and job costing in Aspire Review labor hours and production data for accuracy and efficiency Roll out checks and oversee daily payroll accuracy Identify productivity issues and implement corrective actions Training & Development Train Crew Leaders in the field on production standards, quality, and leadership Train crew members on proper procedures, equipment use, and expectations Conduct seasonal and group training sessions Provide ongoing coaching and informal performance feedback Reinforce BWS standards, culture, and the "BWS Way" in daily operations Safety Leadership Enforce BWS safety policies and procedures across all job sites Conduct regular jobsite safety checks and tailgate meetings Promote a safety-first culture and correct unsafe behaviors immediately Support incident investigations and corrective actions as needed Pesticide & Chemical Applications Attend and maintain required pesticide classes and certifications Create and manage pesticide labels and application documentation Perform miscellaneous spraying on separate visits from mowing services, including: Sedgehammer Mojave Ornamec Roundup Ensure all chemical applications meet regulatory and company standards Equipment, Inventory & Logistics Manage trailer inventory and ensure crews are properly stocked with tools and materials Assist with equipment deployment and logistics Support irrigation, fence, and minor property repairs as needed Coordinate equipment needs with leadership Property Damage & Client Relations Respond promptly to property damage incidents Meet with or communicate directly with clients regarding: Glass damage Irrigation or fence damage Other site-related issues Coordinate repairs and corrective actions Maintain professional, solution-oriented communication with clients Employee & HR Responsibilities Participate in employee interviews and hiring decisions Conduct employee reviews and disciplinary actions when required Perform regular informal performance check-ins Support and enforce company HR policies consistently Administrative & Communication Duties Manage daily payroll submissions and approvals Utilize Pronto and other communication tools for team coordination Assist leadership as needed, including supporting other managers Support snow and ice operations, including emergency, weekend, and overnight work Perform miscellaneous duties necessary to support overall company operations Required Qualifications Prior experience in commercial landscaping operations or field management Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage crews, schedules, and multiple priorities simultaneously Hands-on, field-oriented leadership style Knowledge of commercial landscaping practices, equipment, and safety standards Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications Pesticide license or ability to obtain Experience with snow and ice management operations Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus Physical & Work Requirements Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and extended hours during peak seasons Why BWS Landscaping?
