People Operations Manager / HR Manager Burghardt Sporting Goods - New Berlin, WI Full-Time | $34-$37 per hour About the Role Burghardt Sporting Goods is looking for an experienced People Operations Manager to lead and continue developing our HR and people operations function. This is a highly visible, hands-on role for an HR professional who enjoys both improving people practices and staying involved in the day-to-day work of HR. You will oversee key HR responsibilities including payroll, benefits, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations and compliance while helping strengthen employee engagement, manager effectiveness and the overall employee experience. We are looking for someone who will do more than maintain existing HR processes. This person will assess what we are doing today, identify opportunities for improvement, recommend solutions and take ownership of putting those improvements into action. You will work directly with ownership and company leadership while maintaining a strong presence throughout the organization and building relationships with employees at all levels. What You'll Do Lead and support the day-to-day People Operations and HR function. Evaluate current HR practices, processes and programs and identify opportunities for improvement. Develop consistent HR processes, procedures and documentation. Partner with ownership and leadership on workforce and people-related priorities. Provide proactive HR recommendations and solutions to leadership. Build strong relationships with employees throughout the organization. Maintain a visible, approachable HR presence across departments. Identify opportunities to improve employee engagement, communication, retention and overall employee experience. Develop employee recognition, appreciation and feedback initiatives. Help strengthen communication between employees, departments and leadership. Manage recruiting and hiring, including job postings, candidate screening and interviews. Partner with managers to identify staffing needs and make effective hiring decisions. Own and continuously improve new employee onboarding and orientation. Identify employee and manager training needs. Support employee development and leadership development initiatives. Coach managers through employee relations and performance situations. Manage corrective actions, performance improvement plans and employee separations. Conduct workplace investigations as needed. Improve performance management practices and accountability. Manage or oversee payroll processing and HRIS administration. Administer employee benefits and annual enrollment. Manage employee leaves, workers' compensation and other HR programs. Maintain employee records and required HR documentation. Maintain and update company policies and the employee handbook. Support compliance with applicable employment laws and HR requirements. What We're Looking For Approximately 5+ years of broad Human Resources experience preferred . Experience across multiple HR functions, including employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, benefits, payroll and compliance. Strong employee relations, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects and priorities. Comfortable identifying opportunities for improvement and moving solutions forward. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Comfortable presenting HR recommendations and ideas to company leadership. Ability to balance employee needs with business needs. Comfortable moving between strategic HR initiatives and hands-on responsibilities such as payroll, orientation, interviewing and employee questions. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience, preferred. SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus. Why Burghardt Sporting Goods?
