Job Description
Company Overview Mellano & Company is a family-owned floral grower and wholesale distributor with a long-standing reputation for quality, innovation, and exceptional customer service. For generations, we have supplied fresh cut flowers, plants, and floral products to customers throughout the United States. We are seeking a dedicated Human Resources Generalist to join our team and support our growing workforce. Position Summary The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Human Resources department and ensuring a positive employee experience throughout the organization. This position is responsible for administering HR programs, supporting recruitment and onboarding efforts, coordinating payroll and benefits administration, maintaining employee records, and helping ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, highly confidential, and passionate about supporting employees while contributing to the success of the organization. Key ResponsibilitiesHuman Resources Administration Maintain employee personnel files and Human Resource Information System (HRIS) records. Assist with onboarding, new hire documentation, employee status changes, and termination processing. Support the development, implementation, and administration of HR policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable employment laws. Benefits Administration Coordinate employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations. Communicate benefit programs and eligibility requirements to employees. Promote employee participation in company-sponsored benefit programs. Serve as a resource for employee benefit questions. Payroll & Workers' Compensation Assist with payroll administration. Maintain payroll records and support payroll-related inquiries. Assist with claim administration and follow-up. Recruitment & Staffing Support recruiting efforts by posting job advertisements, screening applicants, scheduling interviews, and coordinating hiring activities. Prepare new hire paperwork and facilitate employee orientation. Partner with department managers to support staffing needs and workforce planning initiatives. Training & Employee Development Maintain employee training records and training logs. Assist with the coordination and administration of employee training programs. Support organizational development and employee growth initiatives. Participate in safety meetings and company training programs. Additional Responsibilities Participate in staff meetings and cross-functional projects. Support company initiatives related to employee engagement and workplace culture. Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsEducation & Experience Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. 3 to 5 years of Human Resources experience required. Experience with payroll administration and HRIS systems required. Bilingual Spanish Required ADP experience strongly preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of HR practices, employment laws, and compliance requirements. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. High level of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to frequently walk throughout office and operational areas, including uneven surfaces and stairs. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
