Payroll & Human Resources Generalist II The Payroll & Human Resources Generalist II is responsible for administering payroll operations and supporting key human resources functions for an employee population of approximately 400 employees. This position serves as the primary onsite payroll resource and a key HR partner for employees, supervisors, and managers regarding payroll, timekeeping, onboarding, benefits, employee relations, and compliance matters. Approximately 60% of the role is dedicated to payroll administration, including payroll processing, auditing, compliance, reporting, and employee support. The remaining 40% focuses on Human Resources Generalist responsibilities, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, records administration, and HR compliance. This role requires the ability to manage confidential information, interpret employment and payroll regulations, and deliver exceptional customer service within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Payroll Administration (60%) Payroll Processing & Administration Administer weekly and bi-weekly payroll for a total workforce of approximately 450 employees, ensuring accurate and timely processing. Audit and reconcile employee time and attendance records, payroll earnings, deductions, accruals, and taxes. Review and process employee status changes including new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, and compensation changes. Coordinate payroll processing with Corporate Payroll and ensure payroll deadlines are consistently met. Process manual checks, off-cycle payrolls, corrections, and adjustments as necessary. Analyze payroll discrepancies and resolve issues promptly. Compliance & Reporting Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local wage-and-hour laws and payroll regulations. Administer garnishments, levies, child support orders, wage assignments, and other payroll deductions. Support payroll audits and year-end reporting activities, including W-2 reconciliation and payroll tax reviews. Prepare payroll-related reports and workforce metrics for management and corporate leadership. Conduct periodic audits of payroll records, employee master data, and timekeeping practices to ensure accuracy. Employee & Management Support Serve as the primary payroll subject matter expert for approximately 450 employees and departmental supervisors. Provide training and guidance on payroll processes, timekeeping procedures, and HRIS self-service functions. Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, leave accruals, taxes, and payroll reporting. Human Resources Generalist Functions (40%) Employee Relations & HR Support Provide day-to-day HR support to employees and supervisors across a workforce of approximately 450 employees. Assist with investigations, employee concerns, corrective action processes, and policy interpretation. Partner with management to support employee engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness initiatives. HR Compliance & Administration Maintain personnel files, HRIS records, and employment documentation. Administer leave of absence programs and support ADA, FMLA/CFRA, and other regulatory processes. Assist with unemployment claims, employment verifications, audits, and compliance reporting. Training & Organizational Support Coordinate employee training administration and recordkeeping. Monitor compliance with required company training programs. Support implementation of HR initiatives, process improvements, and special projects. Qualifications Experience Minimum 5 years of payroll administration experience, including responsibility for payroll populations of 400+ employees. Minimum 3 years of Human Resources Generalist experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial workforce. Experience administering payroll through an integrated HRIS/payroll platform (Dayforce preferred). Experience with California payroll and employment law strongly preferred. Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of payroll laws, payroll accounting principles, and timekeeping systems. Working knowledge of employment law, employee relations, leave administration, recruiting, and HR compliance. Demonstrated ability to manage payroll processing for a workforce of 400+ employees while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. Advanced Excel and reporting capabilities preferred. College degree in an applicable curriculum preferred.
