At UConn Health, this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of professional duties in the administration, evaluation, coordination, and resolution of workers' compensation claims and related employee leave and return-to-work matters.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Administers the full range of workers' compensation claims from initial reporting through resolution, including establishing and maintaining confidential case files and ensuring timely completion of required documentation and actions; Advises employees and managers regarding rights, responsibilities, eligibility, and required processes including documentation, time reporting, benefits, leave implications, and return-to-work requirements; Investigates and evaluates workers' compensation claims by reviewing medical documentation, employment information, interviews, and other relevant records; Coordinates with the third-party administrator, Department of Administrative Services, payroll, leave administration, labor relations, human resources, legal counsel, and other internal and external parties to facilitate claim resolution; Coordinates return-to-work and light-duty activities by reviewing claims for potential assignments and working with departments to identify, develop, and monitor appropriate assignments consistent with medical restrictions and applicable requirements; Coordinates workers' compensation matters with FMLA and other applicable leave programs to support appropriate eligibility determinations, notifications, leave status, and return-to-work processes; Reviews and audits timekeeping and payroll information associated with workers' compensation claims, determines approved compensation rates, and coordinates with payroll regarding payments, coding, adjustments, and discrepancies; Monitors assigned claims and case activity to identify matters requiring additional review, intervention, escalation, or follow up and takes appropriate action within established policies, procedures, and authorities; Conducts audits and analyzes workers' compensation, leave, payroll, and related data to identify trends, discrepancies, compliance issues, and opportunities for operational improvement; prepares reports and information for management and designated committees; Maintains workers' compensation and occupational injury records and logs, including OSHA-related records, and ensures records are complete, accurate, confidential, and maintained in accordance with applicable requirements; Provides information and documentation for hearings, investigations, audits, administrative proceedings, and litigation; collaborates with legal counsel and may represent the organization in proceedings involving assigned workers' compensation matters; Provides training and informational sessions for employees, supervisors, and managers regarding workers' compensation processes, applicable requirements, time reporting, return-to-work procedures, and related responsibilities; Identifies and resolves administrative and compliance issues involving workers' compensation claims and related employee matters; consults with the supervisor, labor relations, human resources, legal counsel, or other appropriate parties on complex or sensitive matters; Monitors workers' compensation expenditures and assigned financial activity and prepares information necessary for budget monitoring, forecasting, and reporting; Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
Knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices, and procedures including workers' compensation claims administration principles; Knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements; Knowledge of payroll and timekeeping procedures and operations; Skill in organizing and prioritizing multiple cases and assignments; Skill in oral and written communication; Interpersonal skills; Ability to research, interpret, and explain applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining provisions; Ability to utilize HRIS, spreadsheet, reporting, and other computer applications; Ability to analyze problems and determine effective solutions within prescribed polices and procedures; Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience:
Eight (8) years of experience in human resource management involving employee benefits, workers' compensation, leave administration, payroll, employee relations, or a related specialty.
SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a bachelor's degree..
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with HRIS systems and/or PeopleSoft. Experience working in Microsoft Office Suite. Workers' Compensation administration experience. Experience with CT Workers' Compensation guidelines. OSHA Federal recordkeeping. CT Jurisdictional knowledge.
SCHEDULE
Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a one-hour unpaid meal break.
SALARY:
The minimum salary for this position is $90,000.00 WORKING

Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment and requires use of computer systems and standard office equipment. Work may involve periods of prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to review detailed information on computer screens. The position may require work beyond normal business hours to meet operational needs.
