A Human Resources Specialist works for a human resources department to implement the provisions of a labor contract, including employee wages and benefits and other practices that are collectively bargained; may also handle an internal grievance process established under a labor contract.
1st Shift | Monday•Friday | 8:00 AM•5:00 PM (Flexible core hours) Job Summary We are seeking a Junior HR Representative / HR Generalist to support Human Resources operations at our pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Round Lake, IL. In this role, you will focus primarily on leave administration (FMLA), workplace employee accommodations (ADA), employee lifecycle execution, and employee relations (ER). Serving as a trusted onsite resource for both employees and plant leadership, you will ensure HR programs, policies, and practices are administered consistently, compliantly, and confidentially within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Manage FMLA leave programs, case management tracking, and documentation in full compliance with federal, state, and company policies. Facilitate interactive process discussions to fulfill employee workplace accommodation (ADA) requests. Employee Relations (ER): Provide direct guidance and support to plant managers and floor employees regarding conflict resolution, policy interpretation, and workplace concerns; independently resolve straightforward ER issues.
Employee Lifecycle Management:
Support administrative processes across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment coordination, onboarding, orientation, and offboarding.
HRIS & Data Maintenance:
Maintain accurate, highly confidential employee records within Workday and other internal HRIS platforms.
Onsite HR Point of Contact:
Serve as the primary, approachable point of contact for employees visiting the HR office. Track recurring concerns and partner with leadership to communicate strategic solutions.
Compliance & Recordkeeping:
Ensure all HR activities strictly adhere to applicable labor laws, cGMP plant guidelines, and internal company policies.
Required Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
1-3 years of hands-on Human Resources experience (preferably in a manufacturing, distribution, or plant environment).
Legal & Regulatory Knowledge:
Solid working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and federal/state employment regulations.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and HRIS platforms.
Health & Safety Compliance:
Must have no known sensitivities or allergies to Penicillin or Cephalosporins due to potential environment exposure inside the pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. Must be comfortable entering pharmaceutical production areas (which may require gowning/showering protocols depending on the zone visited).
Interpersonal Skills:
Outstanding written/verbal communication, active listening, and relationship-building abilities with a track record of exercising sound judgment and strict confidentiality.
Note:
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a direct W2 basis without current or future sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Direct experience operating within the Workday HRIS application. Prior experience handling Leave Administration and Employee Relations inside an active manufacturing plant.
