$75,000–$85,000 annually Position Overview We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our team in Hammond, Indiana. This role is ideal for an HR professional who has a strong background working in a union environment and excels at employee relations, communication, and building trust across an organization. The HR Generalist will serve as a key connection between employees, leadership, and union representatives. The ideal candidate will be comfortable navigating employee relations issues, collaborating with union leadership, supporting retention initiatives, and helping create a positive and productive workplace culture. Key Responsibilities Serve as a trusted HR resource for employees, supervisors, managers, and leadership. Build and maintain strong working relationships with union leaders and representatives . Partner with union leadership and management to address employee concerns, workplace issues, and contract-related matters. Manage and resolve employee relations issues , ensuring concerns are addressed fairly, consistently, and professionally. Help bridge the gap between employees and leadership by facilitating open communication and building trust. Support employee retention and engagement initiatives designed to improve morale and reduce turnover. Coach managers and supervisors on employee relations, performance management, policies, and workplace issues. Assist with investigations, disciplinary actions, grievances, and conflict resolution. Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures across the workforce. Support recruiting, onboarding, employee development, and other general HR functions. Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation. Partner with leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, and continuous improvement initiatives. Help identify trends in employee feedback and turnover and develop strategies to address them. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. 4+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience. Prior union/collective bargaining environment experience is required. Strong understanding of employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management . Proven ability to collaborate effectively with union representatives and leadership . Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish credibility and trust with employees at all levels. Experience supporting employee retention and engagement initiatives . Ability to handle sensitive employee issues with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and objective in challenging situations. Highly organized with excellent follow-through and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively in a fully onsite, fast-paced environment .
