Superintendent's Office Job Title :
Payroll and Human Resources Specialist Qualifications:
High school education, prior payroll and/or accounting experience, administrative writing skills, verbal communication, and strong computer skills, ability to maintain employee files, orient new employees, and work as part of a team, ability to maintain confidentiality. Must obtain Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) upon hire.
Performance Responsibilities:
Payroll:
Gather, prepare, and process payroll for the school district Prepare and submit required reports such as Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MePERS), group life insurance, federal/state taxes, and workers' compensation wage statements Ensure auditors are supplied with requested payroll information Process MePERS forms for employee withdrawals, resignations, and retirements Prepare and update pay averaging calculations Prepare all tax forms including but not limited to 941s, W-2 forms, and employee deductions Reconcile all payroll general ledger accounts Keep current on payroll and retirement rules and regulations
Human Resources:
Prepare and submit job postings, screen applicants, and maintain personnel files Orient new employees by providing benefit packets and reviewing district policies Maintain certification records, contracts, and reasonable assurance documents Administer the substitute database Administer FMLA paperwork Monitor unemployment claims and report to administrators Document human resources actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records Update job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional publications Support the human resources department and organization's mission
Salary Range:
$20.92•$32.52/hour, based on experience 13 Paid Holidays Vacation days based on experience 13 Paid Sick Leave Days 5 Earned Paid Leave (EPL)
Days Hours:
