POSITION OVERVIEW
The Bilingual Human Resources Generalist serves as a key HR partner to the C&C Produce facility in North Kansas City, supporting day-to-day human resources operations and ensuring alignment with GS Foods Group policies, practices, and organizational objectives. This role provides comprehensive HR support including teammate relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, performance management, benefits administration, payroll support, leave administration, and HRIS management. The HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource for teammates and supervisors and must be able to effectively communicate in both English and Spanish. This position promotes a positive work environment, supports consistent application of company policies, and partners with leadership to address workforce needs and teammate concerns. This position also plays an important role in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws while supporting HR programs and initiatives that enhance teammate engagement, operational effectiveness, and the overall teammate experience.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a primary HR point of contact for teammates and supervisors, providing day-to-day guidance and support in both English and Spanish. Support day-to-day HR operations and ensure consistent application of GS Foods Group policies, procedures, and HR practices. Partner with Talent Acquisition and hiring leaders to support recruitment activities, including workforce needs, candidate coordination, offers, pre-employment requirements, and hiring processes. Facilitate new-hire onboarding and orientation to ensure a smooth and positive teammate experience. Manage teammate relations matters, including workplace concerns, investigations, conflict resolution, coaching, corrective actions, and performance-related issues. Provide guidance to supervisors and managers regarding company policies, procedures, performance expectations, and HR best practices. Maintain accurate teammate records, personnel files, and HRIS data and conduct routine audits for accuracy and compliance. Assist with performance management processes, including performance reviews, coaching, documentation, and performance improvement plans. Coordinate and support teammate training, development, and engagement initiatives. Administer and provide teammate support related to benefits programs, eligibility, enrollment, and open enrollment. Support payroll processes by reviewing and ensuring accurate and timely submission of teammate information, timekeeping, pay changes, incentives, PTO, and other payroll-related data. Monitor and support attendance, leaves of absence, workers' compensation, and workplace accommodation processes, including FMLA and ADA. Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality of teammate medical, leave, personnel, and employee relations information. Support employment eligibility verification and I-9 compliance. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and applicable company policies. Analyze HR metrics and prepare reports to support workforce planning and HR decision-making. Partner with leadership on staffing needs, organizational changes, teammate retention, performance, and workforce planning. Promote teammate engagement initiatives and support a positive workplace culture centered on communication, fairness, appreciation, integrity, and respect. Assist with HR audits, compliance reporting, policy updates, and required documentation. Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, teammate experience, communication, and operational efficiency. Partner with the broader GS Foods Group Human Resources and Talent Acquisition teams to support company-wide initiatives and ensure consistency across the organization. Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Bilingual in English and Spanish required, with the ability to communicate effectively with teammates in both languages. Knowledge of general human resources policies, procedures, and best practices. Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws. Experience handling teammate relations matters, including investigations, corrective actions, conflict resolution, and performance concerns. Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's payroll, HRIS, and talent management systems, including ADP Workforce Now (ADP WFN). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time-management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of an HR team while maintaining a results-driven approach. Ability to effectively support teammates and leaders at all levels of the organization. Ability to exercise sound judgment and appropriately escalate complex or sensitive HR matters. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
BS/BA degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. 3+ years of progressive Human Resources experience in an HR Generalist or similar role preferred. Experience supporting a distribution, warehouse, manufacturing, foodservice, transportation, or other high-volume operational environment preferred. Experience with ADP Workforce Now or a comparable HRIS/payroll system preferred. Experience supporting employee relations, benefits, payroll, leave administration, compliance, and performance management preferred. SHRM-CP, PHR, or other Human Resources certification is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position will be in an office setting at a desk equipped with computer, monitors, phone, and other applicable resources/equipment. This role will also require regular interaction with teammates and leaders throughout the facility, including operational, warehouse, and production areas. It will require the applicant to routinely sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and bend for up to 8 hours. Position requires the occasional lifting of objects up to 25 lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a teammate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
