A Human Resources Generalist provides overall operational support in a human resources department, including supporting employee relations, onboarding, benefits and leave management of a company or organization.
The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Senior HR Generalist and is responsible for assisting with all aspects of Human Resources, with some focus on benefits administration. This position administers the daily, weekly, and monthly tasks required of the company's self-funded health insurance plan, including administration of Minimum Essential Coverage programs for field team members. The HR Generalist also supports broader Human Resources functions, including employee relations, onboarding and offboarding, recruitment support, payroll coordination, and maintenance of employee information within company systems. This position may serve as backup for other roles within the Human Resources department as needed. This position requires strong organization, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. The HR Generalist is expected to actively identify compliance gaps, missing documentation, and issues requiring escalation to the Senior HR Generalist or VP of Human Resources & Legal.
General Responsibilities:
Benefits Administration Provide exceptional customer service to employees regarding benefit questions and concerns. Administer employee benefits programs, including group health, health savings accounts, dental, vision, and life insurance. Conduct open enrollment and explain available benefit plans to new hires. Maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefit changes are documented and reflected in payroll deductions. Prepare and maintain employee census records and reports for active, enrolled employees. Assist employees with health, dental, life, and other benefit claims, questions, and concerns. Maintain positive working relationships with carrier representatives, resolve administrative issues, and support proper financial setup of the self-funded plan. Coordinate weekly and monthly invoice reconciliation and invoice payment. Assist with distribution of required employee notices and completion of annual filings. Leave Administration and Compliance Track employee medical leave in accordance with FMLA, ADA, and EEOC guidance. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, and update policies and procedures as needed. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines and other applicable laws. Onboarding and Offboarding Coordinate onboarding and offboarding of internal staff within company systems, databases, and files. Maintain accurate employee information in company databases throughout the employment lifecycle. Employee Relations and HR Support Support staff members with HR-related issues and concerns, including compensation, benefits, recognition, vacation, misconduct, and problem resolution. Assist in developing and executing personnel procedures and policies, and provide guidance and interpretation to support business operations. Serve as backup for other roles within the Human Resources department as needed. Assist with payroll changes as needed. Perform other Human Resources duties as assigned. Recruitment Support Assist with reviewing resumes for corporate applicants and complete phone interviews. Communication and Administrative Support Assist with communication, the employee directory, corporate office maps, and the organizational chart.
Qualifications:
Required High school diploma or GED. At least two years of experience in Human Resources or employee benefits administration. Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Preferred Experience with self-funded health insurance plans. Experience with multi-state organizations. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, and/or CEBS professional designations.
