Job Description

Mala Child & Family Institute is seeking an organized, compassionate, and proactive Human Resources Manager to oversee and support our human resources operations. At MALA, we believe that the experience of our employees directly impacts the quality of care we provide to children, individuals, and families. The HR Manager plays an important role in creating consistent, thoughtful, and effective people practices while supporting our growing multidisciplinary team. This position is based primarily at our Farmington Hills location or Plymouth location and requires travel to MALA's other locations (Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Farmington Hills) as organizational needs arise. The position is primarily in-person with one designated remote workday per week . Your Role As the HR Manager, you will oversee day-to-day HR operations and serve as a resource to employees, managers, and organizational leadership. This position touches all areas of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compliance, benefits, HR administration, and offboarding. The ideal candidate is someone who can balance empathy with accountability, communicate effectively across different roles and disciplines, and confidently manage sensitive HR matters while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Hiring Manage recruitment efforts from job posting through candidate selection and hiring. Conduct HR pre-screening interviews and coordinate subsequent interviews with hiring managers and leadership. Partner with leadership to identify staffing needs and recruit qualified, value-aligned candidates. Prepare and coordinate employment offers and pre-employment requirements. Maintain organized candidate and recruitment records. Onboarding & Offboarding Coordinate the onboarding process for employees, contractors, fellows, interns, trainees, and other personnel. Ensure required employment, credentialing, and onboarding documentation is completed and maintained. Support new team members through a welcoming and organized onboarding experience. Coordinate employee and contractor offboarding, including documentation and appropriate internal processes. Employee Relations & Performance Management Serve as an HR resource for employees and managers regarding workplace questions, concerns, policies, and procedures. Support leadership in addressing employee relations matters in a consistent, respectful, and trauma-informed manner. Coordinate performance management processes, including performance improvement plans, corrective action, and performance reviews. Assist with workplace accommodation and leave processes. Maintain appropriate documentation related to employee relations and performance matters.
Employee Engagement & Retention:
Partner with leadership to identify opportunities to strengthen employee engagement, communication, retention, and the overall employee experience. HR Compliance & Personnel Records Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records. Coordinate background checks, exclusion screenings, employment documentation, and other required pre-employment and ongoing compliance processes. Track professional licenses, credentials, training requirements, and other personnel compliance items. Help ensure HR practices remain consistent with applicable employment laws, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements. Support personnel-related compliance and accreditation activities. Benefits & HR Administration Support benefits administration and employee questions regarding available benefits and HR processes. Maintain HRIS records and ensure employee information remains accurate and current. Coordinate employee status changes and related documentation. Maintain HR trackers, calendars, forms, and other HR administrative systems. Policy & Organizational Support Develop, review, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, forms, and internal processes. Partner with executive leadership and managers on HR needs, workforce planning, employee concerns, and organizational changes. Help ensure HR practices are applied consistently across MALA locations and departments. Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, employee processes, and organizational efficiency. Support a workplace culture centered on collaboration, accountability, inclusion, respect, and professional growth. HR Reporting & Workforce Management Maintain and monitor HR dashboards and workforce data. Track key HR indicators, including headcount, turnover, retention, vacancies, recruitment activity, onboarding, and required training. Provide HR updates and workforce information to leadership as needed. Qualifications Previous professional experience in human resources, including experience supporting multiple areas of the employee lifecycle. Experience with recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and HR administration. Working knowledge of employment laws, HR practices, and workplace compliance. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Strong attention to detail and documentation. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and multidisciplinary teams. Comfortable working in a growing organization where priorities and HR needs may evolve. Proficiency with Google Workspace and HR information systems. Ability and willingness to travel between MALA locations as needed. Experience working in mental health, behavioral health, healthcare, or a related setting is a plus. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Psychology, or a related field. HR certification such as SHRM-CP, PHR, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR. Experience with Gusto or a comparable HRIS. Experience supporting a workforce that includes W-2 employees and 1099 independent contractors. Experience with credentialing, professional licensure tracking, compliance, or accreditation requirements. Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
