CEO About Us Sigma Commercial LLC is a Milwaukee-based holding company overseeing four operating businesses: LaBonte Construction (luxury residential remodeling), Property Prep (commercial maintenance and janitorial), Vandelay Group (residential property management), and Sigma Commercial itself (shared back office). We're a small, hands-on team - people wear multiple hats and things get done without a lot of red tape. The Role This is a solo HR seat covering our group - no team, no direct reports, just you owning recruiting, payroll, and benefits end to end. Most of your week is recruiting: filling construction and maintenance crews with people who actually show up and do the work. The rest is running payroll accurately and keeping our benefits and insurance programs compliant. Key Responsibilities Recruiting Own full-cycle hiring for blue-collar and skilled-trade roles at
LaBonte Construction and Property Prep:
carpenters, general laborers, maintenance techs, janitorial staff, and similar field positions Source through job boards, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, and trade-industry referral networks Screen applicants, schedule interviews, and coordinate final hiring decisions with entity leads Post and manage openings across external job boards Process new-hire paperwork and run onboarding Payroll Process end-to-end payroll for
LaBonte Construction, Property Prep, and Sigma Commercial:
timekeeping review, gross-to-net calculations, tax withholding, garnishments, and off-cycle/final paychecks Keep payroll compliant with federal and Wisconsin state requirements Handle payroll recordkeeping and reporting, including W-2s and quarterly filings Benefits & Insurance Compliance Administer group benefits (health, dental, vision, retirement) alongside our insurance broker/carrier Run annual open enrollment and act as employees' point of contact for benefits questions and claims Maintain ACA reporting and COBRA compliance Handle workers' compensation administration, including policy audits and claims Manage unemployment insurance claims and confirm correct employee classification HR Administration Maintain personnel files, I-9s, and required employment documentation Track required trainings or certifications for field staff Serve as first point of contact for day-to-day employee relations questions Qualifications Recruiting experience for blue-collar or skilled-trade roles: construction, maintenance, facilities, or similar Hands-on payroll processing experience, ideally across multiple entities/EINs Experience administering group benefits plans and workers' comp/unemployment compliance Working knowledge of Wisconsin employment law and federal payroll/benefits basics (FLSA, ACA, COBRA) Comfortable owning HR, payroll, and benefits solo, with no support staff Payroll software experience preferred (Gusto, ADP, Paychex, etc.) Strong organization and follow-through: able to run a recruiting pipeline, hit payroll deadlines, and manage compliance at the same time Self-starter, comfortable operating independently in a small-business environment
