To lead the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of Austin Community College's (ACC) Skilled Workforce Training initiatives. The Director is responsible for aligning Continuing Education (CE) programs with credit-bearing career pathways, developing partnerships with industry and community stakeholders, and, in coordination with the Dean of Applied Technologies, overseeing the Austin/ACC Mobility & Infrastructure Academy. This position supports the college's mission of expanding access to high-demand, high-wage careers in the skilled trades and built environment sectors.
Job Description:
Description of Duties and Tasks Leads the development and implementation of strategic plans to align skilled technical workforce Continuing Education programs with ACC's credit programs and guided pathways in fields such as Automotive Technology, HVAC, Welding, Building Construction, Architectural & Engineering CAD, GIS, Geospatial Engineering, and related programs. Oversees the daily operations, partnerships, and strategic growth of the Austin/ACC Infrastructure Academy, ensuring training aligns with workforce needs and employer expectations. Coordinates with ACC Dean of Applied Technologies, divisional department chairs, and faculty to facilitate articulation agreements and stackable credentials between CE and credit programs, enabling seamless student transitions. Develops and manages partnerships with industry, labor unions, workforce boards, municipal agencies, and community-based organizations to enhance program offerings, student support services, and job placement opportunities. Leads outreach and recruitment initiatives aimed at increasing participation from underrepresented populations and promoting skilled workforce programs, including proactive engagement with middle and high school students to promote ACC as a clear and accessible pathway to construction and infrastructure careers. Oversees and manages training coordinators and related staff in the planning, scheduling, and delivery of skilled technical workforce training courses, ensuring offerings are aligned with regional workforce needs and industry demand. Administers program budgets, identifies funding opportunities, and supports grant development efforts in collaboration with ACC's grant office and external partners. Supervises and evaluates assigned staff and contractors, ensuring high-quality instruction, program delivery, and student outcomes. Collaborates with ACC's Marketing and Public Information Office to promote skilled workforce programs and Infrastructure Academy initiatives through targeted campaigns and events. Represents ACC at local and regional workforce boards, chambers of commerce, city planning meetings, and other public forums focused on economic development and skilled workforce planning. Develops and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), prepares reports, and makes data-informed decisions to support program growth and continuous improvement. Knowledge Understanding of workforce development strategies, labor market trends, and performance-based outcomes measurement to support program alignment with regional and state workforce needs. Understanding of skilled technical workforce and built environment sectors, including industry certifications, licensing requirements, and emerging trends in mobility and infrastructure-related training programs. Understanding of community college systems, including Continuing Education (CE) to credit integration, stackable credential models, and guided career pathway design. Understanding of public-private partnership development, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with industry, labor unions, workforce boards, and community organizations. Financial and operational management expertise, including budgeting, resource allocation, and program sustainability. Experience with grant development, administration, and compliance requirements. Project management expertise, including planning, execution, and evaluation of complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives. Understanding of curriculum design techniques and instructional elements to support effective workforce training program development and delivery. Skills Strategic planning and organizational leadership, with a demonstrated ability to lead initiatives that align with institutional goals and workforce priorities. Ability to build, sustain, and manage cross-sector partnerships, including engagement with industry, labor, public agencies, advisory boards, and other governing bodies. Experience facilitating career pathway development and curriculum alignment across programs, ensuring seamless integration between training and academic offerings. Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, execute, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while maintaining an established work schedule and meeting deadlines. Advanced interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including public speaking, stakeholder advocacy, and the ability to communicate effectively with multicultural audiences using tact and diplomacy. Ability to analyze data, develop key performance indicators (KPIs), and produce reports to support data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement. Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record that reflects the values of service, initiative, collaboration, and accountability. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, industry leaders, community organizations, and public partners. Strong organizational and planning skills, with attention to detail, follow-through, and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities. Experience in grant writing and supporting funding development efforts. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and materials. Technology Skills Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software. Use automated financial systems. Required Work Experience Three years related work experience including one year of supervisory experience. Education cannot be substituted for supervisory experience. Completion of the ACC Supervisor Certificate Series Program will satisfy the supervisory experience required for this position. Required Education Bachelor's degree. Special Requirements Travel on a national basis may be required. Physical Requirements Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
