Youth Basketball Coach / Skills Trainer

• Part Time Childream Basketball is hiring an experienced, dependable, and energetic Youth Basketball Coach / Skills Trainer to join our growing team in North San Diego.

We primarily serve children ages 5-15 through 1-on-1 training, small-group sessions, and youth basketball programs. We are looking for coaches who can do more than play basketball well — they must be able to teach clearly, correct technique, manage a class, communicate with families, and help players make consistent, meaningful progress. Pay Starting pay is based on coaching experience, teaching ability, basketball knowledge, reliability, professionalism, and overall fit. Coaches who consistently demonstrate excellent instruction, strong parent communication, punctuality, professionalism, and adherence to company standards may be considered for higher hourly compensation and additional responsibility. • Nearby North San Diego communities Reliable transportation is required. Responsibilities
• Coach children ages 5-15 in private, small-group, and group settings
• Teach ball handling, shooting, passing, footwork, defense, basketball IQ, and overall player development
• Demonstrate proper technique and provide specific technical corrections — not simply supervise activities
• Break skills into clear, age-appropriate teaching steps
• Adjust instruction based on each player's age, ability, learning style, and development needs
• Create a positive, energetic, structured, and safe training environment
• Maintain class discipline while keeping players engaged and motivated
• Build professional, trusting relationships with parents and families
• Communicate clearly with parents about student progress, strengths, areas for improvement, and important class observations
• Complete a brief post-session progress report so Childream can consistently track each student's development and plan future training
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to coach
• Follow Childream training plans, safety standards, and coaching procedures Required Qualifications
• 1+ year of youth basketball coaching or basketball teaching experience; 2+ years strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and player development
• Ability to demonstrate basketball skills correctly and confidently
• Experience working with children
• Strong teaching, communication, and class-management skills
• Comfortable communicating directly and professionally with parents
• Comfortable coaching both private lessons and group classes
• Patient, positive, energetic, dependable, and professional
• Able to provide consistent recurring weekly availability
• Reliable transportation
• Able to pass a background check
• CPR / First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it before independently coaching sessions Preferred Qualifications
• High school varsity, college, semi-professional, or professional basketball playing experience
• Experience as a basketball skills trainer or private coach
• Experience coaching children ages 5-12
• Experience working with children with autism or other special needs
• Background in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Education, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field
• Mandarin-speaking ability is a plus, but not required Special-needs coaching experience is a plus, but it is not required for every assignment.

Most sessions take place during weekday afternoons and evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays. Hours depend on coach availability and class demand. We strongly prefer coaches who can provide consistent weekly time blocks, because our goal is to build recurring schedules rather than rely on occasional one-time assignments.
