Sarasota County Government is seeking a Field Inspector (Compliance Maintenance Specialist II/III) to join our Planning and Development Services - Land Development team. In this role, you'll work closely with the Land Development Engineer to inspect site development projects and ensure construction aligns with approved plans, County standards, and federal, state, and local regulations. You'll also review, issue, and inspect Right-of-Way Use and Culvert permits, helping projects move forward while maintaining compliance and quality standards. We're looking for someone with a strong understanding of construction practices, plans, and specifications, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports. To be considered, you'll need a high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of experience in construction, maintenance, applicable trades, or technical/supervisory support for construction projects . Relevant college or university training may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Experience with surveying, traffic control standards, code enforcement procedures, and operating tools such as levels and pipe locators is highly valued, with surveyor experience required for advancement to the Level III position. Schedule Work Hours:

Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Typical Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ( no weekends! ) As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Starting Pay Range:

$22.94/hr up to $28.68/hr) To be considered, you must have the following: High School Diploma, or its equivalent, and 3+ years of experience in construction/maintenance, contract applicable construction trades, or in a field providing technical/supervisory services to construction/maintenance contractors.

OR:

Starting Pay Range:

$24.74/hr up to $31.54/hr) To be considered, you must have the following: High School Diploma, or its equivalent, and 4+ years of related experience ( 2 of which must be in related inspecting experience ).

OR:

College or university-level training in an appropriate field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required construction experience. Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days of hire.

Employees who acquire the skills and minimum qualifications for the next level will be eligible to apply for promotional opportunities. Employees will not automatically be upgraded to the next level. Reclassifying a position is based on business need and financial impact, and not based solely on the incumbent. Passing Substance Screening:

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of 5 years.

$22.94/hr (Minimum for CMS II ) up to $31.54/hr (Midpoint for CMS III ), based on experience.
