Position Summary The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts (ULEM) seeks a highly organized, strategic, and mission-driven Grants & Development Specialist to advance the organization's fundraising and programmatic goals through comprehensive grants development and administration. The Grants & Development Specialist supports the full lifecycle of institutional funding opportunities, including prospect research, proposal development, submission, tracking, compliance, reporting, and renewal strategies. Working across Development, Programs, Finance, and Executive Leadership, the Specialist ensures proposals and reports accurately communicate organizational priorities, program outcomes, and community impact. The position also plays an important role in strengthening ULEM's internal grant readiness, including developing systems and standardized program information that improve grant development, outcome measurement, reporting, and organizational accountability. This is a part-time position with the potential to become full-time based on experience and performance. Grant Development and Management Research, identify, and evaluate grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other funding sources. Develop, write, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding applications. Develop and maintain standardized program templates capturing program goals, objectives, activities, outcomes, and key metrics to streamline grant development and reporting. Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, award periods, renewals, and funder communications. Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports and compliance documentation. Maintain grant records, proposal outcomes, award histories, and supporting documentation. Support grant budgeting efforts in partnership with Finance and program staff. Program Collaboration and Impact Reporting Partner closely with program leadership, including the Vice President of Programs and Partnerships and other program leaders, to gather programmatic information, participant outcomes, performance metrics, and success stories needed for proposals and reports. Translate program outcomes and organizational impact into compelling, funderfocused narratives. Collaborate with program and finance staff to collect and report data required by funders. Support the development of systems and processes that strengthen ULEM's ability to capture, organize, and report program outcomes. Grant Readiness & Organizational Capacity Work across departments to ensure information needed for funding requests, compliance, and reporting is consistently captured and readily available. Help staff understand funder expectations related to outcomes measurement, evaluation, documentation, and reporting. Identify gaps in available program and performance data and recommend processes to strengthen ULEM's ability to demonstrate impact. Promote cross-functional accountability for maintaining accurate and timely information necessary for successful grants management. Funder Intelligence and Strategy Monitor emerging institutional funding opportunities, priorities, trends, and reporting requirements. Provide leadership with relevant intelligence regarding funder priorities, outcome measures, reporting expectations, and emerging opportunities. Identify opportunities to strengthen ULEM's competitiveness by aligning program outcomes and organizational messaging with funder priorities. Prepare periodic reports and recommendations regarding grant performance, pipeline development, and funding opportunities. Qualifications Required Demonstrated experience in grant writing, grants management, fundraising, nonprofit program management, communications, or a related field. Proven ability to develop competitive proposals and secure funding from foundations, corporations, government agencies, or other institutional funders. Exceptional writing, editing, verbal communication, and information-synthesis skills. Strong project management, organizational, and deadline-management abilities, including managing multiple proposals and reporting requirements simultaneously. Ability to translate complex program information, outcomes, and performance data into compelling funding narratives. Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build productive relationships with program staff, leadership, Finance, and external stakeholders. Strong analytical skills and experience working with data, budgets, performance metrics, and reporting requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database or CRM systems. Preferred:
Experience writing grants for workforce development, youth development, entrepreneurship, economic mobility, education, or community-based programs. Experience managing government grants and compliance requirements. Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms. Knowledge of nonprofit financial reporting and grant budgeting. Experience working in a multi-program nonprofit environment. Success Measures The successful Grants & Development Specialist will: Maintain an accurate grants calendar, pipeline, reporting system, and supporting documentation. Consistently submit high-quality proposals and reports on time and in compliance with funder requirements. Strengthen coordination among Development, Programs, Finance, and Executive Leadership. Improve organizational systems for collecting and reporting program outcomes and impact data. Increase organizational awareness of funder priorities, emerging trends, and funding opportunities. Support the growth, sustainability, and diversification of ULEM's institutional funding portfolio while strengthening a culture of grant readiness and accountability.
