Job Description Public Works Operations is seeking an Equipment/Training Specialist to manage our vehicle and equipment inventory, maintenance, and purchase program, as well as support the division's equipment, skills, and CDL training program. The Equipment and Training Specialist positions offer an exciting opportunity to provide crucial support to Public Works and City Garage staff in the upkeep and continuous improvement of our fleet of vehicles and equipment. The Equipment Training Specialist will also creatively participate in the training of our staff in construction and infrastructure maintenance skills, and heavy equipment operation. Responsibilities:
Create and manage an equipment inventory management system using hard copy files, computer programs such as Microsoft Office, and dedicated City software. Coordinate with PW and City Garage staff to track and manage the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment through the City Garage and outside vendors. Provide equipment status reports to divisional leadership. Perform daily and weekly quality control functions for equipment upkeep. Help plan and spec vehicle replacements and new equipment purchases. Help provide training to City staff on equipment operation, work skills, and CDL licensure. Support the investigation of accidents/incidents to ensure compliance with policies and regulations. Document violations, provide recommendations, and coordinate follow-up actions. Participate in Safety Review Board hearings. Conduct Post-Accident retraining. Selected applicant may be asked to participate in the division's daily work activities for the purposes of training and supporting staffing needs, to include operating equipment with assigned crews as needed or short-term leadership of crews. Perform Alpha-essential duties during inclement weather or emergency incident recovery. Selected applicant may be asked to participate in the division's on-call Duty Officer program. The Equipment/Training Specialist requires a Class B CDL upon hiring. A tanker endorsement and Class A CDL are required within six months of employment (training provided).
Requires the following:
Ability to operate heavy equipment; ability to effectively communicate to staff, management, and department leadership; ability to work with trainees and evaluate skills for certification; must be able to develop lesson plans and training aids, and keep accurate records; ability to respond to and investigate accident scenes and communicate with emergency personnel; ability to manage records, provide reports, track maintenance activities, and plan recommended purchases and expenditures. VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
: Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . A current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required and must be maintained. Specialized certifications may be required based on department assigned. CPR must be obtained within 6 months.
