This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys providing meticulous, one-on-one care in a quiet, low-stress environment where quality is valued over speed. Our herd consists of one beautiful Gypsy Vanner gelding and two beloved senior miniature horses. The Gypsy Vanner requires extensive coat and feather care, while the miniature horses enjoy gentle grooming and individualized attention. This is an independent position with flexible scheduling and the opportunity to develop a long-term working relationship. Additional hours may become available in the future as our needs grow. Excellent horse handling skills are required. While I am happy to teach specialized Gypsy Vanner grooming techniques, applicants must already be confident, safe, and experienced in handling horses. I can teach Gypsy Vanner grooming, however due to health circumstances I cannot teach basic horse handling skills. Responsibilities Thoroughly groom 3 horses, including currying, brushing, mane and tail care, hoof cleaning, and overall coat maintenance. Provide detailed care of the Gypsy Vanner's abundant mane, tail, feather, and the skin beneath the feather, helping prevent tangles while monitoring skin health and maintaining excellent coat condition. Safely catch, halter, lead, tie, and handle horses using calm, confident horsemanship. Observe horses carefully during grooming and promptly report cuts, swelling, lameness, skin conditions, behavioral changes, or any other health concerns. Assist with veterinary and farrier appointments by safely handling horses as needed. These appointments may occasionally require working outside the normal weekly grooming schedule. Handle our horses and dogs with kindness and confidence. Assist with occasional barn-related tasks such as moving feed, supplies, or equipment as needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Communicate clearly with the owner regarding the horses' condition, care, and any concerns. Qualifications Proven experience safely handling horses is required. Strong horse sense and the ability to work confidently around horses of all sizes. Previous horse grooming experience is preferred. Experience grooming Gypsy Vanners or other feathered breeds is a significant advantage but is not required. I am happy to train the right candidate in specialized Gypsy Vanner grooming techniques. Comfortable handling friendly dogs. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality grooming results. Reliable, punctual, and dependable. Excellent communication skills. Ability to safely lift feed bags, grooming equipment, and other supplies, and comfortably perform physical tasks including bending, reaching, walking on uneven ground, and standing for extended periods. A genuine love for animals and a commitment to handling every animal with patience, kindness, and respect. Must have reliable transportation. Our home is located in the Rimrock subdivision in Paulden, Arizona. The roads are paved all the way to the property. Interview will include demonstrating horse handling ability. Scheduling & Compensation The position requires grooming once each week. The day of the week is generally flexible and can be arranged to work with both our schedules. Occasionally, additional hours may be available when the veterinarian or farrier is scheduled or when extra barn tasks arise. Flexibility for these appointments is appreciated. Weekly hours typically range from approximately 2 hours or more, depending on grooming needs and additional projects. Compensation is competitive and will be based on your experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is offered as an independent contractor position. The successful applicant will be required to sign an Independent Contractor Agreement and a liability release before beginning work.
