Job Overview
STARTING PAY IS BASED ON LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE & WORK PERFORMANCE.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a strong understanding of animal handling practices. This role involves providing high-quality care for animals in our facility, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being. The Kennel Technician will be required to do a LOT of daily cleaning, which will be 50% to 75% of your job duties. The other daily duties will include front desk/receptionist work, as well as dog bathing. You will often work by yourself to support the needs of our furry clients, so you must be friendly, dependable, punctual, reliable, honest, hard working, self-motivated, and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
MUST BE ABLE TO WORK WEEKENDS AND PART OF
HOLIDAYS, since those are our busiest times.
NOTE:
We are needing someone who can work 3 to 4 full days during the week, (meaning both the AM & PM shifts on these 3 days), as well as working the full Saturday and Sunday shifts each week) Possible shift hours are listed below, but will vary based on how busy we are each week: Mon-Fri 7 or 7:30am to 12 or 1pm AND back again from 2:30 to 7pm Saturday 7:45 to 1:30 or 2pm AND back again for 5:30 to 7:30 or 8pm Sunday 8am to 12pm AND back again at 4pm to 8pm Responsibilities Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in kennels and surrounding areas daily to promote a healthy environment.
Daily duties include:
sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, dishes, cleaning windows, disinfecting all surfaces, scrubbing walls, cleaning indoor cabins and outdoor runs, scooping yards, filling in holes, cleaning outside buckets, taking out garbage, cleaning lobby, cleaning cat room and cat enclosures, scooping/cleaning litter pans. Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to staff. Assist with animal restraint, as needed for nail trims or grooming, in order to keep the animal and staff safe. Handle dogs and other animals safely, employing proper techniques for lifting and moving when necessary. Answering phones, scheduling reservations/appointments, greeting/checking in customers, and checking out customers. Will do daily bathing/blow drying/brushing of dogs, nail clipping/dremeling, brushing teeth, cleaning/flushing ears and performing all other daily dog bather responsibilities. Ensure all kennel, cleaning and bathing supplies are stocked and organized efficiently. Follow all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both animals and staff. Qualifications Previous experience in animal handling or care is preferred; experience as a kennel or vet tech is a plus. Strong knowledge of animal behavior and restraint techniques. Ability to perform heavy lifting as required, (50 pounds or more). Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to be able to work efficiently by yourself. A genuine love for animals and commitment to their welfare. Familiarity with kennel operations or with a boarding/doggy day care setting is advantageous. Willingness to learn new skills related to dog training and animal care practices. Ability to take critique and make necessary corrections.
