Job Description

Pay Starting at $14.50 per hour Additional compensation growth may be considered based on training, skill, performance, and added responsibilities Job Type and Schedule Full-time Part-time Grooming operates Monday through Friday Occasional Saturday availability may be requested No Sunday or holiday shifts About the Position Ames Pet Resort is looking for a dependable and caring Pet Bather/Grooming Assistant to support our grooming department. Previous professional bathing experience is preferred but not required. APR is willing to train the right person who demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, safe animal handling, and a strong willingness to learn. This is a physically active, hands-on position involving animal handling, bathing, drying, cleaning, laundry, and assisting Groomers throughout the day. Primary Responsibilities Bathe pets using the correct products and service instructions Blow dry, towel dry, brush, comb, and de-shed pets Assist with nail trims, nail grinding, and ear cleaning Complete sanitary trimming and paw-pad trimming after training and approval Prepare pets for Groomers according to the assigned schedule Move pets safely between kennels, bathing, drying, and grooming areas Monitor pets for stress, discomfort, skin concerns, ear concerns, injury, or unsafe behavior Report unusual conditions, behavior concerns, bites, injuries, or service problems promptly Confirm pet identity and follow grooming notes and service instructions Assist Groomers with safe handling when directed Clean and sanitize tubs, kennels, dryers, tools, equipment, and grooming areas Complete grooming laundry and maintain organized supplies Support pet handoffs and communicate completed work to the Groomer or Grooming Manager Follow APR animal-safety, sanitation, documentation, and incident-reporting procedures Employees may perform only those services for which they have been trained and approved. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old Previous bathing, grooming-assistant, kennel, veterinary, or animal-care experience is preferred but not required Genuine interest in animal care and welfare Willingness to complete wet, physical, repetitive, and cleaning-intensive work Ability to follow detailed instructions and established procedures Strong attention to detail Dependable attendance and punctuality Ability to remain calm and patient with nervous, energetic, or resistant pets Ability to accept coaching and ask questions when unsure Ability to work independently while cooperating with Groomers, Reception, and Management Willingness to maintain a clean and organized grooming environment Groomer Training Opportunity Employees who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, animal-handling ability, professionalism, and interest may be considered for additional training toward becoming a Groomer. Training opportunities depend on employee readiness, available supervision, staffing, business need, and Management approval. Employment as a Bather does not guarantee advancement into a Groomer position.
