Job Description

Love animals? Want a job where every day is full of wagging tails, purring cats, and second chances? Helping Strays is looking for a compassionate, hardworking animal lover to join our team! You'll help keep our shelter sparkling clean, care for dogs & cats, assist adopters, and make a real difference in the lives of homeless pets.
Your goal:
Keep our animals happy, healthy, and loved while helping the shelter shine! Start each day by making sure every animal has a clean, safe, and cozy spot to relax. Do midday and end-of-shift checks to make sure our furry friends are fresh, comfy, and cared for before staff leaves for the day. Keep fresh water filled and accessible at all times—hydration is key! Follow our shelter's animal care, cleaning, and disease prevention protocols like a pro. Handle all animals with care, compassion, and confidence. Stay alert and observant—monitor the animals throughout the day and speak up if you notice signs of stress, injury, or illness. Help new rescues settle in and feel welcome when they arrive at the shelter. Assist potential adopters who visit our shelter. Be ready with helpful, accurate info to match people with their perfect pet. Keep records up-to-date and accurate using our shelter software and files. Work alongside and guide volunteers—be a friendly face and helpful teammate. Pitch in with other tasks as needed. We're all in this together!
Physical Requirements:
You'll be on your feet a lot—walking, kneeling, cleaning, and caring for animals. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally (sometimes pups need a lift!). Work environment includes loud barking, cleaning chemicals, animal fluids, and all the fun (and sometimes messy) realities of a shelter.
