Job Description

The Dog Care Supervisor is responsible for ensuring a high standard of care and humane handling for all shelter dogs while maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for animals and people. This position oversees daily animal care operations, including nutrition, housing, enrichment, and other essential needs to support the health and well-being of shelter animals. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, and knowledgeable about animal behavior, handling, and shelter care practices. Job duties include, but may not be limited to: Clean, disinfect, and maintain all animal housing spaces on a daily and continuous basis, adhering to CAA Standard Operating Procedures and protocols for animal care, kennel maintenance, sanitation, parasite and disease control, and other animal care practices Trains new hires in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures Is responsible for daily animal care operations (All shifts are covered, proper cleaning protocols are being followed, and all assigned daily tasks are completed) Provide appropriate diet, clean water, and enrichment to all animals according to SOPs and as directed by management and medical personnel Move animals around the facility as directed by the animal care management team and ensure that all animal locations and stages are correctly entered into PetPoint Monitor animals' health and behaviors, and record observations at least daily according to SOP. Report signs of illness and behavior concerns as directed to appropriate personnel. Perform and/or assist with humane euthanasia. Keep all animal areas stocked with food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other essential items, informing Managers when items need replenishment or repair Record clear and concise notes regarding animal behavior and care in PetPoint Arranges and carries out proper disposal of deceased animals Completes annual employee reviews in collaboration with the Animal Care Manager Performs rounds with the team on assigned days Follow the mission of CAA. Enjoy working with animals and have a genuine concern for their care and well-being. Be familiar with all shelter Standard Operating Procedures and the Employee Manual. Self-starter. Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior. Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness. Ability to represent CAA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff. Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within CAA, with volunteers, and the public, and be a team player. Must be patient, courteous, and work well under stressful conditions. Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized formats. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
Required Professional Licensing or Certifications:
Fear Free Shelter Certification-training provided
High School Diploma or GED Valid Louisiana State Driver's License Physical Demands:
The work is performed in animal housing areas and shelter surroundings. Typical position requires workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects.
