Job Description

Position:
Weekend Event & Animal Care Lead Job Type:
Part-Time Schedule:
Friday-Sunday, approximately 5-7 hours per day
Typical Hours:
8:00 AM-1:00 PM, with additional hours as needed for events, animal care, and seasonal operations
Starting Pay:
$22.00 per hour
Mileage Reimbursement:
$0.75 per mile for approved business-related mileage when using a personal vehicle

22325 Ridge Road, Germantown, MD 20876 About the Position Squeals on Wheels is looking for a dependable, enthusiastic, and experienced Weekend Event & Animal Care Lead to help oversee our animals, weekend operations and staff. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who genuinely loves animals and enjoys working with people. The ideal candidate is organized, confident, patient, dependable, and comfortable making decisions and problem solving independently. You will help ensure that our animals receive excellent care, our staff are properly supported and trained, and our events are prepared and executed safely and professionally. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine animal care, team leadership, customer service, event operations, and education in a fun and rewarding environment. Key Responsibilities Animal Care & Welfare Perform and oversee weekend feeding, watering, cleaning, and general animal husbandry. Conduct routine animal health and wellness checks and report concerns promptly. Administer medications as directed and maintain accurate records when necessary. Provide enrichment and ensure animals are handled safely and appropriately. Groom animals as needed, including bathing, brushing, nail care, and other routine grooming. Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary animal housing and work areas. Ensure weekly and deep-cleaning responsibilities are completed. Assist with field work and other farm projects as needed. Staff Leadership & Supervision Assist the Manager with the supervision of animal care and event staff. Help create and maintain staff schedules and rotating animal-care assignments. Train new and existing employees on animal care, safety procedures, event preparation, and company expectations. Provide guidance, feedback, and support to staff members. Serve as a reliable point of contact for staff during weekend operations. Step in as a backup for events when scheduled staff are unavailable. Event & Zoo Operations Ensure animals, equipment, supplies, and vehicles are prepared for events. Prepare animals for events, including grooming, drying, feeding, and other necessary care. Ensure fencing, bins, tarps, laundry, and event supplies are clean, organized, and ready for use. Assist with seasonal preparation and organization of company vans, bins, and equipment. Manage and refill company vehicles with gas as needed. Maintain a professional and positive representation of Squeals on Wheels at all times. Administrative & Operational Support Help maintain checklists, schedules, procedures, and operational systems. Monitor inventory of animal-care supplies and communicate purchasing needs to management. Assist with farm improvements and operational projects. Help identify areas where processes can be improved and recommend practical solutions. Handle weekend client communication by email and phone when needed. Respond to operational issues and use sound judgment to resolve problems independently. Communicate important updates, concerns, and incidents to the Manager or owners. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is: Passionate about animals and animal welfare. Dependable, responsible, and punctual. Comfortable taking initiative and working independently. Patient, professional, and an effective communicator. Comfortable supervising and providing direction to other employees. Able to communicate effectively and diplomatically with customers, coworkers, and management. A strong critical thinker who can solve problems calmly and efficiently. Comfortable working around children and animals. Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities at once. Willing to perform hands-on animal-care and cleaning tasks. Comfortable standing and working for several hours at a time. Required Experience & Qualifications 2+ years of animal-care experience preferred. Previous experience working with children is preferred. Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred. Valid driver's license. Reliable vehicle capable of safely transporting yourself and, when required, animals and equipment. Ability to drive in inclement weather. Comfortable driving larger vehicles; experience driving a van or horse trailer is a strong plus. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds . Must be willing to complete a criminal background check. Current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance required.
