Kennel Attendant - Limited Part-Time Looking for a great way to earn extra income while making a difference for animals? The Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS) is looking for a hardworking, dependable, and compassionate Limited Part-Time Kennel Attendant to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for additional income in the mornings, evenings, or on weekends . The hourly wage for this position will increase to $15/hour beginning in January 2027 . Schedule This position is limited part-time. Applicants must be available to work 7:30AM shifts and on a weekend rotation . Additional availability to cover employee time off and occasional schedule openings is highly valued. About the Position Kennel Attendants play an important role in keeping our shelter clean, healthy, and welcoming for both animals and visitors. This is a hands-on, fast-paced position that is ideal for someone who enjoys staying active, working with animals, and being part of a team.
Daily responsibilities include:
Cleaning and sanitizing animal enclosures and shelter areas Feeding and caring for animals Handling animals safely and compassionately Providing animal enrichment and exercise Assisting with basic medical care Monitoring animal health and behavior Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment As you gain experience, you will have opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, including adoption counseling, record keeping, and customer service . You'll also gain valuable experience working with animals and helping community members become responsible pet owners. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is: Dependable, organized, and self-motivated Comfortable working independently and as part of a team Passionate about animal welfare and responsible pet ownership Able to communicate effectively with both coworkers and members of the public Respectful and compassionate toward people and animals Able to manage time effectively and pay close attention to detail Mature, reliable, and able to use good judgment Comfortable working in a busy environment where priorities can change quickly High school diploma or equivalent required. Preferred Experience Previous professional or volunteer experience caring for animals Basic knowledge of feline veterinary care Understanding of feline behavior Experience providing guidance to community members about feline-related concerns Strong customer service and interpersonal skills Ability to handle difficult conversations with professionalism, patience, and a positive attitude Physical & Work Environment This is an active position. Kennel Attendants spend much of their shift on their feet and must be able to move quickly, bend frequently, and lift or carry up to 50 pounds. The position involves regular cleaning and direct contact with animals. Working in an animal shelter can also be emotionally demanding, and employees may encounter animals that are sick, injured, frightened, or stressed.
