Job Description

Part-Time Animal Care TechnicianJob Summary Somerset Regional Animal Shelter is seeking a dependable and compassionate Part-Time Animal Care Technician . This position combines hands-on animal care with customer service and adoption responsibilities. A large part of the job involves cleaning and sanitizing kennels and animal housing areas , feeding and caring for animals, and following proper disease-control protocols. The position also involves assisting visitors, answering questions about available animals, and processing adoption applications. Previous shelter experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate. Responsibilities Clean and sanitize dog kennels, cat cages and animal housing areas according to shelter protocols Feed and provide daily care for shelter animals Complete laundry, dishes and general shelter cleaning Monitor animals and report health or behavior concerns Safely handle dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments Assist visitors and answer questions about available animals Review and process adoption applications, including necessary follow-up and reference checks Communicate professionally with potential adopters in person and by phone Assist with finalizing adoptions Follow all shelter safety, sanitation and animal-care protocols Requirements Dependable, punctual and strong work ethic Strong cleaning skills and attention to detail Ability to consistently follow cleaning and sanitation procedures Excellent communication and customer service skills Comfortable working with both dogs and cats Ability to work independently and as part of a team Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Previous animal care or customer service experience is a plus, but not required Schedule Part-time — up to approximately 24 hours per week Shelter hours are 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, 7 days a week Open/flexible availability is strongly preferred Weekend and holiday availability required We provide training on our animal-care procedures, cleaning and sanitation protocols, and adoption process.
