Job Description

Dog Walker Wanted
  • Happy Tails (Jersey Shore)
  • $30/hour, paid per visit Part-time | Monmouth & Ocean County, NJ | Weekends required | Start soon THE JOB You'd be a
Happy Tails Walker:
the person a family trusts with the one member of the household who can't tell them how the day went. So you tell them, with a photo, a quick report card, and a dog who comes home grinning. Every walk is one-on-one. No pack walks, no six leashes in one fist. Just you, one pup, and a route built around what that dog loves.
WHAT YOU'D EARN
$30 per hour, paid by the visit. No guessing, no averaging.
  • 30-minute neighborhood walk: $15
  • 60-minute long walk: $30
  • 90-minute adventure trip (trail or beach): $45 Stack a morning of walks and a weekend adventure trip and you've got a real paycheck, earned outside, in the sun, with a dog who thinks you're the best thing that's ever happened.
WHO WE ARE
Happy Tails is a Jersey Shore dog walking and pet care company trusted by dog families from Neptune and Asbury Park down to Point Pleasant, Brick, and Toms River. We're insured ($2M liability), our walkers are vetted and trusted, and every family gets a free meet-and-greet before their first walk because trust is earned, not assumed. Our founder Melissa started Happy Tails because of her own dog, Benji, and one simple idea: love looks like showing up, tail wagging, every single day. That's the whole business. Real, attentive, joyful presence, one dog at a time. Every tail tells a story. We're hiring the people who help write the good chapters.
WHAT A DAY LOOKS LIKE
  • Morning:
a 60-minute loop with a golden who needs to sniff every mailbox in Ocean Grove. You let her.
  • Midday:
a 30-minute walk and water refill for a senior beagle who prefers a slow pace and a sunny bench.
  • Afternoon:
a 90-minute adventure trip on a trail or the beach with a husky who has opinions about squirrels.
  • After each visit: a photo (or three) and a two-sentence report card.
"Very tired, very happy" is a complete sentence here.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • You love dogs, and dogs can tell. Nervous rescue, bouncy puppy, dignified old-timer: you meet each one where they are.
  • You show up. On time, every time, rain or shine or Jersey humidity. Families build their whole day around your visit.
  • You notice things. A limp, a skipped meal, a new fear of the garbage truck. You see it and you say something.
  • You're a communicator. Cheerful photo updates, quick replies, honest report cards.
  • You're comfortable being solo and self-directed. It's you and the dog. You make good calls.
  • Weekends are required.
Not "preferred," not "occasionally." Saturdays and Sundays are our busiest days, and our best walks. If weekends don't work for you, this isn't the right fit, and we'd rather say that up front. Bonus points if you have experience with reactive dogs, basic leash-handling skills, pet first aid/CPR, or you've ever been described as "the friend who's always on the floor with the dog at parties."
THE PRACTICAL STUFF
  • Reliable transportation to get between visits across Monmouth and Ocean County
  • A smartphone for scheduling, photos, and check-ins
  • Comfortable walking several miles a day in all four Jersey seasons
  • Physically able to handle strong pullers and lift a medium-size dog if needed
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT HERE
  • Paid by the visit, transparent rates. You always know what a day is worth.
  • One dog at a time. You get to actually know the dogs you walk.
  • Adventure trips are part of the job. Trails and beaches on the clock.
  • A team that's dog-first, always. No corporate script. Just people who care.
  • Regulars.
Same dogs, same families, real relationships. The pups will start waiting at the window for you.
HOW TO APPLY
Send us your resume along with a quick note covering three things: 1. Why dogs? 2. Your weekend availability (be specific!) 3. A photo of you with a dog. Any dog. Yours, a friend's, a very patient stranger's. 4. Your Resume We read every application, and we'll get back to you fast. Tail-waggingly fast. Happy Tails
