For more than 43 years, Samaritans Southcoast has provided compassionate emotional support, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention to people of all ages. Today, we proudly serve as Massachusetts' only full-service 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline center, providing calls, texts, and chats 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each year, our team responds to more than 40,000 calls, texts, and chats from individuals experiencing emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, loneliness, anxiety, grief, and other life challenges. Our highly trained Crisis Counselors provide hope, connection, and support when it matters most. In addition to 988 services, Samaritans Southcoast operates:
  • Safe Place, a support program for suicide loss survivors
  • Care Calls, a wellness and connection program for older adults
  • Community education and suicide prevention outreach programs throughout Massachusetts As a fully remote organization, we employ compassionate, skilled professionals from across the United States who share a commitment to reducing suicide, promoting mental wellness, and ensuring that no one faces a crisis alone.
About the Position As the Training & Engagement Coordinator, you will assist the Training & Outreach Director and Lead Shift Supervisors in coordinating onboarding, staff training, employee engagement, and community outreach initiatives. This hybrid role supports both internal workforce development and external community education eff orts by helping plan, coordinate, and represent Samaritans Southcoast at outreach events throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. You will help facilitate new hire orientation, maintain training records, coordinate learning opportunities, and support employee engagement activities that strengthen team culture and retention. This role combines training coordination, staff support, communication, and organizational development to ensure operational excellence and a positive workplace environment.   • Assist the Training Director and Lead Shift Supervisors with onboarding all new hires.
  • Coordinate orientation schedules, onboarding activities, and training assignments.
  • Ensure new hires complete all required onboarding paperwork, training modules, and compliance requirements.
  • Distribute welcome materials, training resources, and organizational handbooks to new staff .
  • Support hands-on training, shadowing opportunities, and role transition activities.
  • Track onboarding progress and communicate completion status to leadership.
  • Maintain training calendars, attendance records, and certifi cation documentation. Support Workforce Development and Engagement
  • Assist in planning and coordinating ongoing staff development opportunities.
  • Support refresher training, coaching sessions, and skill-building initiatives.
  • Help organize employee recognition programs, team-building activities, and engagement events.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and supportive learning environment.
  • Serve as a resource for employees with training-related questions and support needs.
  • Foster engagement strategies that improve retention, morale, and performance.
  • Exemplify the organization's values, mission, and culture. Support Training Materials and Communication
  • Assist with developing, updating, and maintaining training materials and job aids.
  • Help distribute internal training announcements and learning communications.
  • Maintain accurate training records and reporting documentation.
  • Utilize learning platforms and technology systems to support training delivery.
  • Gather feedback from new hires and staff to identify opportunities for improvement. Support Community Outreach & Education
  • Assist the Training & Outreach Director in planning, coordinating, and implementing community outreach and suicide prevention education initiatives.
  • Represent Samaritans Southcoast at health fairs, community events, school presentations, conferences, and other outreach opportunities.
  • Coordinate outreach event logistics, including registration, materials, scheduling, and follow-up communications.
  • Help prepare and transport outreach materials, educational resources, and promotional displays.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners and organizations.
  • Track outreach participation, collect event data, and assist with reporting outreach outcomes.
  • Support public awareness eff orts that promote the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and Samaritans Southcoast programs. Maintain Excellence and Compliance
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure training documentation is accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Support quality improvement and training evaluation activities.
  • Exercise discretion and sound judgment when handling confi dential information.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. Qualifi cations Required
  • Authorization to work in the United States and physically reside in the United States while working
  • Must be local and reside within Southeastern Massachusetts
  • Ability to travel throughout Southeastern Massachusetts for trainings and community outreach events.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Comfortable speaking with community members and representing the organization at public events.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support outreach events and trainings.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in training, onboarding, workforce development, human resources, or operations support
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Profi ciency in Microsoft Offi ce, Google Workspace, Zoom, and related platforms
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to maintain confi dentiality and professionalism
  • Some evening and weekend fl exibility is required to support operational needs and on-call responsibilities. Preferred
  • Experience in employee engagement or staff development
  • Experience working in nonprofi t, healthcare, social services, or call center environments
  • Experience with learning management systems or virtual training tools
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
