Job Description

Job Summary:
As an Animal Experiences Attendant, you will be the heart and soul of our interactive animal exhibits. This role involves direct interaction with our animals and guests to provide a safe, educational, and enjoyable experience. You will be responsible for overseeing the parakeet aviary, tortoise yard, rabbit barn, wildlife trail exhibits, and barnyard animal petting pen. Your duties will include selling animal feed, maintaining and cleaning animal enclosures, observing and reporting on animal behavior, enhancing guest experiences, explaining and enforcing exhibit rules, monitoring public safety, and assisting in the preparation and sale of various animal feed.

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the interaction between guests and animals in the parakeet aviary, tortoise yard, rabbit barn, wildlife trail exhibits, and barnyard animal petting pen. Sell various types of animal feed to guests and provide guidance on how to feed the animals properly. Maintain cleanliness and safety of animal enclosures and exhibits, which includes cleaning up after animals. Observe animals daily and report any changes in behavior or health to the supervisory staff. Engage with guests to enhance their experience by initiating conversations, answering questions, and providing educational information about the animals. Explain and enforce the rules of the exhibit to ensure safe and respectful interactions between guests and animals. Monitor the public and assist with crowd control to ensure the safety of both guests and animals, and facilitate smooth flow through interactive exhibits. Assist in the preparation, selling, and distribution of animal feed for interactive exhibits.
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong interest in animals and commitment to their care and well-being. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage positively with guests of all ages. Ability to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team. Good observational skills to detect changes in animal behavior or health. Physical ability to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks, to stand or walk for extended periods, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Patience and positive demeanor in handling animals and interacting with guests. Previous experience in animal care or customer service is preferred but not required.
Helpful Skills:
Knowledge of basic animal behavior and care. Experience in public speaking or education, particularly relating to wildlife or conservation. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a busy environment. Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
