Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Animal Care Specialists are responsible for the day-to-day care of animals in the shelter, the daily cleaning of the facility, and helping find homes for animals placed up for adoption.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide the daily enrichment, cleaning, and sanitizing of kennels along with associated equipment
- Ensure food and water are provided for the animals as needed
- Maintain inventory of animals, equipment and supplies
- Screen animals for disposition and complete animal profiles
- Report any health or behavioral problems displayed by animals to management immediately
- Assist potential adopters in finding their forever pet
- Dispose of trash in a timely manner
- Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required
- Candidates will work independently and responsibly while observing all health and safety guidelines and contribute enthusiastically to the positive culture and mission of
LAPS. JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least a high school graduate (or equivalent) and possess a valid driver's license
- Must be able to speak in both English and Spanish
- Must be in good physical condition, energetic, and able to work 7 days/week, including some holidays and weekends
- Experience in animal welfare, shelter, or customer service preferred, but not required.
- Must be responsible, reliable, and comfortable with animals
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to learn procedures related to sanitizing kennels, equipment, and general animal handling
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Ability to learn safety protocols and procedures
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Learn and use shelter software
- Be organized, detail-oriented and have strong time management skills
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, staff, and management
- Recognize and interpret animal signals in an efficient manner
- Work with frequent interruption and changes in priorities
- Perform all physical requirements of the position
