Job Overview Central Vermont Humane Society is seeking a friendly, out-going, and efficient person to help care for and train animals (primary focus on dogs), join a team of people working with potential adopters to make positive matches, and to improve animal welfare in our communities. Excellent communication skills (with pets and people!) are required to join this hard-working team of animal welfare professionals! Are you comfortable handling dogs, cats, bunnies, and guinea pigs? Do you have strong people skills? Do you see yourself working on a team of dedicated individuals, digging into the physically demanding work it takes to care for animals in a shelter environment? The care and love that goes into our animals sets them up for finding their new loving home, and you will be key to matching our animals to the right home. Daily work includes a LOT of cleaning, walking dogs, training dogs, managing play groups, and talking with people looking to adopt, as well as people needing to surrender their animals. Must also be comfortable learning a computer program database for managing our animal records and processing adoptions. Primary responsibilities are to enhance the welfare of all CVHS animals through excellent care, enrichment and training, humane and compassionate treatment, and adoption into loving homes. You should love people as much as animals, be in shape to work a physically demanding job, be willing to work outside in all types of weather, have reliable transportation in all weather conditions, and a work ethic that gets you to work on time, every day you are scheduled! Your teammates and the animals count on you. Typical schedule is 8am-5pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch, days of the week may fluctuate, but Saturdays are expected. Your schedule may include working on Holidays. Starting wage is $15.00/hour, depending on your experience.
